Will we see a 2000-yard rusher from the current pool of NFL running backs?

Is there a 2000-yard rusher among those backs currently on NFL rosters?

(Exclude Jamal Lewis unless you think he can do it again.)

Why or why not, and who... briefly.

Consider the popularity of running back by committee, and that 2000 yards has been achieved only 5 times.

The best bet for another 2000 yard rusher would be LT.

You can make cases for everybody else not being able to get there. Each team it seems has managed to go out and get a second RB. Maybe Ronnie Brown can do it out of Miami...with their new offensive line stud, maybe he can do something besides for get injured.

It seems the RBC is really going to hamper what production comes out of them.

Lewis won't do it again because of the coming out party for Anderson, Edwards, and Winslow. Its now a passing team, and Lewis will get his 1100+ yards.

Peterson won't do it because of Jackson...also Chester Taylor.

LT is now the only one who doesn't have a solid back-up. With Turner gone, they now need to rely on 5'7 Darren Sproles who is a much better return man than RB.

I think LT wouldbe the best...but I doubt its going to happen anytime soon.

    Good luck!!

Edit: Somebody will break 2000 yards again...it will happen. Every record is made for breaking.

No. The reason is not that there are not backs that can do it...AP, LT, LJ, Stephen Jackson. The reason is what we learned from what happens after they accomplish such a feat...shorter careers, less productivity in the following years, increased risk of injury, run down for a post-season run, etc. Those are the reasons the two back system became so popular. Look at the career of T. Davis in Denver, had he not gone for 2000 yards and carried the rock so many times in such a short period of time he might have had a longer career...true, the trade off their was two Super Bowls, but none of the backs I listed have anyone close to John Elway calling the signals. Bottom line, a more balanced attack with two fresh backs at all times is way more effective in todays NFL and barring injury or offensive need I do not see another 2000 yard back in the near future.

I'm not convinced we'll have one for the next few years. It's not that the RB's are not a talented bunch, but I don't see an offense capable of throwing 1 guy out there that much.

Who knows though really. If their was a 2000 yard rusher in the pack, he prolly plays for Denver since they have a nack fro turning average backs into superstars. :)

No, LT is the only back capable of it, but the NFL has favored more passing, or a balanced attack. Every team in the league are favoring a 2- back system.

    In fact, I'll be bold,

THERE MAY NEVER BE ANOTHER 2000 YARD RUSHER

    EVER AGAIN!

It is my team, so i am biased, but i would love to see Ryan Grant get there. 2000 yards is accomplished by atleast 125 yards a game in every regular season game. With the work being done on the passing game,

Grant might see more carries this year. He has proven to be solid starting back, so all i can do is hope the best for him.

Its funny that everyone a couple of years ago said that Larry Johnson might get to 2000 yards rushing in a season, but now that everyone knows he sucks..(I told you all he is no good!!!) they don't even mention his name in questions like this. Oh, I think Adrian Peterson will get 2000 yards in about 3 years when he gets more experience.

Yes. There is a lot of talent in the NFL.

Here's a list of backs that could.

    A.D

    L.T

    Larry Johnson

    Steven Jackson

    Two possible candidates:

Adrian Peterson - If Chester Taylor gets hurt and T.Jack continues to struggle the Vikes will simply hand off to AD and let the defense do the rest on the other side of the ball.

Marshawn Lynch - The man in Buffallo - will carry the rock a ton in bad weather.

Doubtful with the speed these defenses possess nowadays.

These linebackers could be tailbacks with their speed. If anyone has a chance I'd say Adrian "all day" Peterson given the Vikings keep their no pass attack.

There is an amaziing amount of RBs who could I just really don't see any of them as making it there are plenty who I obviously think they have the talent to (Tatum Bell among other I'm not saying hes the best by any means I just think that he could make it)but really I don't wann predict that any of them will exept for may AP at least whille the Vikes have no air game.
