Is a 6 pound weight gain (in one week) normal during peri-menopause?

I exercise daily by walking from 30-45 minutes and do the points system (Weight Watchers) and basically stay away from junk food, is this normal (during this phase in a woman's life)?

I would say 6 lbs in a week is sudden weight gain and a cause of concern......It's not normal either.....

It may not be due to the peri-menopause thing; it could be some other things like an underactive thyroid; blood sugar imbalance; drugs and medications; fatty acid deficiencies......

Have a read on this article on causes of sudden weight gain and see whether your case is relevant:

well first off, you are going to gain more than 10 lbs. Just think about it, an average baby is about 7 lbs at birth, then you have all the amniotic fluid and extra blood in your system, its going to be more than 10 lbs. Immediately after giving birth I lost 20 lbs, so that was 20 lbs of just extra "stuff" (lol) that was in me. With that being said though, 5 lbs is a lot to gain in a week. It could just be water retention, do your ankles/feet/hands look swollen? What I would do is keep a very good food record of what you eat, write down the amount of each thing you ate and what it was. That way if you keep gaining weight at this rate you can show it to your dr so she wont just think you are "pigging out"

6 pounds is quite a lot. Go on BMI and see if you are overweight.
