They think im bipolar?

my mom often says she thinks i am too.

i've had a very bad past, something i don't like to talk about much, and my friends and family often say i have the traits of a bipolar diagnosed person.

is it something i should worry about, and get checked out?

Update:

thankyou, helped me alot

GET DIAGNOSED by a professional! If you are bipolar, this could be the single best thing you could ever do for yourself. I just broke off an engagement with someone who is bipolar but refuses to believe it and take the meds. Just admitting it and making the effort to get help can make a world of difference. Just know, it's not an easy process, it can take a few years to find the best combination of drugs for you.

Kudos to you for awknowledging you may have a problem though- you should be proud of yourself.

That's pretty limited information. Lots of other factors can be at play here before you jump to a conclusion of a self-diagnosis of Bipolar. Things such as environment, personality, age, culture, relationships with relatives (parents, bothers/sisters) all have to be taken in to account. Don't confuse your response to negative things that have happened to you in your past as Bipolar either. Sometimes a little counseling can go a long way...and it doesn't mean you have an Axis I or even Axis II mental disorder.

By the way, you can't diagnose Mental disorders from a blood test. There something called the Brain-blood barrier. Chemical imbalance in the brain can't be registered through the blood stream.

Lithium has been around for years and years and has some long-lasting area effects: nausea, shakiness, impacts the thyroid, reasons weight earnings, between others. I even have been taking it for approximately 21 years. it is not for each guy or woman. For me, this is the only temper stabilizer that works. over the previous a number of years, psychs have been employing anti-seizure drugs for temper stabilization. Topomax and Depakote are some. there are so lots extra yet i won't have the ability to keep in mind their names. it is relatively useful to ask you surgeon in case you may get off the lithium and attempt a temper stabilizer. maximum medical doctors are exceedingly attentive to their sufferers' requests. good luck and God bless.

You should get your bad past checked out before you do anything. You're gonna have to face it if you want to come to terms with it. Bad experiences in childhood can screw you later if you ignore them. Good Luck.

go talk to a therapist, only they can diagnose you. and yes it can get pretty bad. my fiance is bipolar and doesn't take anything for it (the meds they give for mental problems like that change your personality, and he likes who he is, and so do i) and he can go from being the happiest person alive tickling and kissing me to really sad like almost crying and thinking that he needs to punish himself. you should really go to a shrink.

you and I are in the same boat

    just see a psychologist

    have them draw some blood

and that'll prove whether or not you are bipolar

    and if you are

their should be some sort of medication you can take

(i'm actually seeing a psychologist tomorrow for that very reason, no joke)

so just ask your mom to get you an appointment

and you should be all set
