sorry to say but i just asked my hubby who is very knowledgeable a/b science and animals and he said rabbits only live a/b 5-7 yrs. so it looks like it was just it's time. i'm sorry a/b your family's loss. we lost our family cat a few months ago so i know it's a sad thing.,but think of all of the good times you had w/it and don't balme yourself. it's nature. take care.

No, the food wouldn't kill him if it was rabbit food. Five years is about right for a rabbit. The sad thing about rodents is they don't live long. Try a Netherland Dwarf. They are the smallest of the rabbits and they can live up to twelve years. I'm sorry about your rabbit dying. How sad.

Well cared for house rabbits live to be about 10 years old.
Was there anything else that could have contributed to his death? Do you use wood shavings for litter? Has he been lethargic, or not eating much?
Riley - rabbits are not rodents! Geez, if you're going to answer a question, at least know something about the subject.

The poor thing probably just died. Check the expiration dates on the food--if everything is ok with the type of food you gave, just bury the rabbit and try to move on...sorry for your loss!
