Recipe references????

Has anyone noticed, as have I, that many contributors are using recipes they have found in a web search to answer these requests without giving thier reference point in the place provided?

Seems like cheating to me unless you give credit where credit is due.

Why do I ask this.

Well, because I did a general search for requested recipes and found that the majority of the answers were simply copied from the web.

So how does that make one a "top Contributor" when all they did was copy?

If I post a recipe without a reference, then it truely is MY recipe.

What do you think?.

I totally agree. We can all do searches for recipes on the Internet. But we ask questions here to get people's personal opinions. If somebody copies a recipe that they haven't even tried, that's ridiculous.

I think people should give input about why they like a recipe and only post recipes that they have tried.

Personally, if I ever asked for a recipe (which I don't...I know how to use Google and a cookbook), I wouldn't need or want a reference. My interest would be getting a recipe. And I rarely give out MY recipes, though general ideas of how to do something I'll gladly share.

Now, if you're talking about plagiarism, that's a completely different story (although I doubt the Yahoo police will bust you for it).

And being a "Top Contributor" is simply a matter of numbers....the more "Best Answers" you get, the sooner you become a TC. It doesn't matter where the answers come from.

I would have to agree with you but many of the answers here if they aren't opinion answers are copied from the web. In the case of recipes though they should be referenced- although anything in the media could be construed as "fairgame" though.

everything i put down comes directly from me, i can't speak for anyone else, but i would think if they're taking the time to do the search, that the asker could do, or maybe couldn't find, then they would still be contributing.

Most of the one I use are my own, but I confess I have slipped up by not adding a reference.
