Practice, practice, practice. I assume you are Cuban in the States? If so, turn off the Novelas for a while and watch only in English TV. Speak only English, preferably around someone who speaks it and is patient and won't correct you all the time--unlike my Puerto Rican husband who corrects my small mistakes in Spanish all the time. The result, as I'm sure you know, is that I don't speak it as often as I should and then I don't get the practice I need.

Since you asked this question in English, I think you are doing well so far! I suggest that you chat with people as much as possible, always in English. To learn lots of words use "flash cards": get 100 paper index cards and write the word in Spanish on one side and English on the other. Use these to memorize lots of words quickly. Mix them up often so you don't just memorize the order they are in. When I lived in Germany, this method helped me learn very quickly.
Good luck!

The best way is to find native English speakers and speak only English with them. Have them explain things in English. Watch English television with the subtitles on so you can read it as it is spoken. It is the fastest way, but the hardest. My husband spoke some English when we first met and has improved to almost fluency and I have had to learn Spanish for his family. I have tried books, but I found when I am forced to use Spanish, I learn. tienan suerte!!

Absolutely! We are the arena's moment biggest English speakme nation, (after India if you'll be able to think it!) It is the worldwide language of industrial and enterprise. I don't care in the slightest degree if immigrants choose to talk their local tongue at house or in public, however they want elementary (if no longer accented) English comprehension to perform their public and paintings lifestyles. Keep your tradition and your local tongue, (might be you'll be able to even train it to me), however use English to your banking, medication, court docket court cases, and many others. I have traveled to 3 non English speakme nations, handiest as a guest, and I labored as tough as I would to be well mannered and opt for up the language as quick as viable.
