There are some that are, some that aren't. Some are still made with animal fat or byproducts, but I think what makes it non-vegan but still vegetarian would be beeswax. There's soy wax candles available in most stores now and other plant-wax based candles.

I don't use candles, but if I did, I would try to find an alternative to beeswax, such as soy. I don't understand why everyone on here gets so upset when all we are trying to do is reduce animal suffering and exploitation. Obviously, bees do produce wax naturally, but do you think that large, corporate produces of candles go out and look for beehives and scrape the wax out? No, the bees are harvested and held in captivity. Whether or not the bees are physically harmed by this process is a matter of debate. However, they are still creatures that deserve all the freedoms and basic rights of other creatures. They should be allowed to roam free and live where and how they like just as all creatures should. That being said, even if you disagree with that notion, there is no reason to be so hostile and aggressive about it. Just because someone has a different view than you, doesn't mean they don't deserve respect.

Make sure it says soy or other plant based candle. "Wax" is not made of beeswax any more, it is by products of animals and chemicals. Read the label just like you would in food.

NO, Veganism is a philosophy and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Candles are not vegan they are made out of wax.
