How long for starlings to leave the nest?
I have a nest of Starlings causing noise and unpleasant odours but Starlings are protected, so I can't remove the nest
Anyone know how soon the chicks will fly off so I can clear the nest out?
Thanks everyone. The nest is in a vent pipe that leads to my under-stairs loo. Once their gone I'll cover the pipe and maybe put a nesting box near by

I dont if this helps , i didnt realize they were protected.
Starlings build a substantial nest, mainly of grasses, in trees and buildings. They commonly nest within the roofs of buildings.
Usually 4 eggs are laid and incubated by the female for 12-13 days. While breeding, the parents roost in, or close to, their nest-site. Fledging takes place after 21-23 days. Soon after becoming independent of their parents, in May, first brood juveniles join communal roosts, leaving the parents to rear a second brood.

Just send in the Fraggle to chase them away!
They do take a few weeks to fledge, and like Plato says they'll probably stick around for a while after that. They might even build another nest near to where the original nest was.

about 4weeks. we have them to but the crows and especially the magpies know they're there and come round about 8 times a day to see if they can pull them out the nest or grab them when they come out. that's when you hear the racket normally the parents squawking and going pip pip loudly trying to get them frantically away from the nests. so if you hear a commotion go and have a look in case they're trying to get the poor babies. you,ll soon get used to the parents alarm call when they crows come around.

Hello Bunches-they begin to fly from about 18-21 days old which is fairly quick-good job as they are very noisy birds-then they will probably hang around your garden for a while lol good luck!

its about three weeks, before the fly but chances are they will hang around awhile just enjoy the little loves there's nothing nicer than watching a mother bird feed her young especially if they are in somebody Else's garden lol
