how can i safely destroy cdroms with private and personal information on them?
The cd-roms are write-protected so I cannot just format them, but I don't think it is safe to just bin them - how can I destroy them so no-none can access the info on them?

You can buy shredders that will take a CD.
They also cut up credit cards.

Are you sure you are talking about CD-Roms? Write-protected? Maybe you confused it with floppy disk. Any how for floppy disk thats write protected then just switch the little lever at the side and then you can format it. If its really a CD Rom then just cut it in half.
BTW, it is really called CD Rom, I saw someone said its the drive itself. The drive is called CD rom drive :)

An expensive way would be to buy a shredder which will cope with them.Otherwise, chop 'em up with garden shears, scratch 'em thoroughly with a sharp object or paint nail varnish remover on 'em.

Scratching the disk wont distroy the data as the data is stored on the silver foil stuff underneath the disk.
Set the disk on fire and melt it. Obviously do this in a fire bin otherwise you might have plastic stuck to your pavement.

Smash the disk then separate the pieces and put them into separate bins.

Put you ROM-CDs through a shredder. After that, if anybody can get any info off of them they DESERVE it ! ! !

CD ROM??? This is the drive.so there is no info stored on it. Maybe you mean CD, where you can store data on it. You can just destroy it. Use hammer to destroy the CD.:)

I use a diamond cutting shredder with a DVD/CD slot.
Some rich agency might still get the data off, but I do not have anything to hide so they are welcome...

shred them and put the pieces round the rose bushes to discourage the snails. as good as gravel and cheaper.
