Need advice on golf stance?
Fairly happy with set up,but now the season has started Ive started changing my back position. Not sure which way to go.
1.Should I keep it straighter and more upright with hands hanging down.
2.Bend more over the ball with hands stretched out
To be honest Ive tried them both and can't decide. And I'll chop and change all season again if I don't stay with one stance.

Very interesting I have pondered that myself! I have found a good tip is to make sure your hands lead about 1/2 inch to 1/4 of an inch ahead of the ball at address on all shots. Standing to tall can make your takeaway go directly to the outside from the beginning this kills your swing from the get go. The truth is regardless of your body type The happy medium rule works best. This means make sure your not standing to tall or bent over to much both of these effect shaft angle at address. Find your happy medium and just bend your knees slightly to allow for a full turn. I highly recommend you don't stand to tall for this is a weak set up that limits your power!

Does your school have a girls team? If so, are boys allowed to try out for the girls team. Maybe try out for the girls team? If you never played or practiced golf, and you're trying out against people that have been playing possibly since they were 5, I think you'd be wasting your time and the coach's time. I've played golf almost every weekend for about the last 15 years and I'm a 10 handicap- I took up golf when I was 22. Whenever I play against a highschool kid that's been playing since youth and taking proper lessons, I find out how terrible I really am, and also how bad the rest of the 12 guys I play with are-who range in age from 22-70. Think of something you're really talented at doing, and then a first timer trying to compete with you. Your question sounds kind of silly now, doesn't it? **someone already voted this answer down. These two girls have only played golf on a video game, but want advice for trying out. If they bother to tryout after only playing on a video game, I think they would be wasting the coach's and other player's time. This would show a lot of disrepect to someone trying to help some kids play golf. Who knows, maybe if you have a nice butt the coach may let you play a few holes so he/she can watch you make fools of yourself. Also, I'm sure if you were trying to put a team together and some jokesters showed up and disrupted your tryout, you'd be a bit annoyed. Have you spoken to your father about his? Does he play golf? What about mom? Does she play? Is she supportive?

The stance is for the feet to be separated a comfortable distance apart, with the body slightly bent at the waist , fairly straight back and a reach for the ball. with the hands slightly in front so that your shoulder turn will not be restricted. See what Teachers like Ledbetter, Rick Smith, Stan Utley say. Use the one which suits your frame the best. Just be consistent.
Source(s): Your physique usually determines the swing plane you use for each club. Just be consistent with what you decide to use. You should be in between upright and bent over. - How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

'Whilst I am not a disciple of all he says, pick up David Leadbetters first book and that gives the stance in what I feel is correct detail and certainly the accepted wisdom on the subject. In case you haven't got it, he advocates standing upright with the club held horizontally, dropping the club on to ground and bending slightly from the hips, with your bum sticking out slightly.

Look at the tour players, they all may have slightly different swing, different back swing, different follow through, but there's one thing that is mostly consistent, their stance. Stand athletic, feet shoulder width or slightly wider, arms straight and loose down (not outstretch to the ball).

Definately NO 1

Whichever is more comfortable and consistent. Usually a more upright stance promotes power.

I've got to tell ya, Do the natural thing, Just set up and swing the club, wherever the club brushes the ground and it feels good ,that's where you should be, just put the ball in the way. good luck.

Check out this video on stance. It shows that you should have your arms hanging straight down. http://www.ultimategolfsystem.com/a/pfo/special.ht... You will have to scroll down the page about 2/3 to watch it.
