Ethically speaking...

    good questions

    1. policies should be in place regarding no smoking while working - then if the employee violates that policy - they can be let go

    2. employers should be allowed to ask if an employee smokes and to what extent (# packs/day) and depending on the line of work(working with the general public, clean rooms) - they should have the right to refuse employment based on this factor

    3. Absolutely - Insurance payments for individuals that smoke should be higher relative to the higher costs that smokers incur statistically

This isn't really an ethical issue, but here goes.

No they should not be allowed to fire those who smoke unless there was a policy that prohibits smoking in place when the person was hired and the employee started smoking after employment.

Companies should be allowed to limit/choose who they want to hire base on whatever guidlines they choose as long as they are not commonly discriminatory.

Yes companies should be allowed to adjust their health insurance benefit based on the reckless lifestyles of their employees...

    My opinion.

I do not think companies should discriminate against smokers by not hiring or firing them. However, insurance companies should charge them more. They need more health care than the non-smokers, especially at the end of their lives when they have advanced emphysema, heart failure, or other related illnesses from their years of smoking.

No, Yes, Yes. The health insurance costs more for people who smoke as they have more health problems and more chances of a flu or a virus. Also colds and coughs due to smoking. My grandfather died of cancer due to smoking, and he died at 55 which is a young age and he died still smoking and with the cig in his habd. Smoking is a very bad habit.

    1. No they dont becaue this is America the land of the free. The smokers are the ones who choose to smoke.

    2. NO but they can make limits where and when they smoke so that they dont not get the job done.

3.Yes they should. Because smokers are slowly killing themselves and wasting their time for those who aren't killing themselves.

They should be able to make their own rules and guidlines for hiring and firing. They have as much rights as individuals.

They should be able to charge more for health insurance, life insurance companies charge more already.
