What make assumptions based on lack of knowledge?I'm a reputable breeder and I ship to get dogs the best homes

I would rather meet the new owners in person and have them pick up their new puppy. That isn't always possible.I do spend time on the phone and the internet with the possible new owners.Remember people can lie in person also.Don't you have to believe their is good as well as bad? Carla

Shipping a dog isn't necessarily a bad thing. If a puppy person is interested in a breeding that is across country, he can have a lot of dialog with the breeder before they both decide whether or not there is a good fit. Conversely, some breeders find better homes for their pups across the miles than they do locally, and shipping a dog could be the best way to bring a new family together.

Some top breeders and some top dog people are separated by oceans, and neither would disagree that shipping the pup overseas (to eachother) was a bad thing.

A general statement (assumption) about shipping dogs is often skewed towards an uninformed opinion. A case by case analysis would help determine whether or not shipping a dog to a person unseen is a good thing or a bad thing.

Sure they do BUT one also has to beware of the CAMEROON SCAMMERS. Add: This is a SCAM that has been going around for a very long time where people will tell you that you can get a pup/pups for FREE, but only have to pay for the shipping. So, people think they are getting a great bargin by sending a Western Union check (which CAN'T be traced) for shipping, but there is NO puppy. The people have just got scammed because they now sent a check to someone who has no dogs. This goes on a LOT on different websites, including Craigslist and Kijiji.......and world wide......and for different breeds of dogs, exotic birds, monkeys, and I've even heard horses.

Sorry, but if you ship puppies, you are not a breeder, you are a business owner.

It would never even occur to me to purchase any living thing without seeing it first, and anyone who offers to ship a living thing to me is distasteful to me.

To the poster below me-so the only problem with that is you can try your best to get to know someone over the phone and then later find out they are part of the Michael Vick family.

Good breeders who ship will have the person fly or drive to meet them, or they will have done business with them before and are probably selling show quality animals-they will not just ship a dog to whoever the voice is on the end of the phone, or whoever the user id is on the Internet. THAT would be a byb or a puppy mill.

Carla, your right people can lie in person also. But i wouldn't sell or buy a dog over the internet, because I wouldn't want to be jiped :).

I don't think its crappy that you would ship dogs...and you did say you would rather meet the new owners...

many people ship dogs...not just "crappy breeders"....

    I don't understand your question...

I know I would't buy a pup from a breeder online especialy not seeing it...

i think it would be okay to ship under these conditions:

    1. Breeder and buer have met at least once to meet and see pups before ready to leave moma.

    2. Buyer leaves but wants to buy a pup. Puts deposit down and you 2 make arrangement to ship.

You could always do a back ground check lol.

I think it be okay to ship pups to buyer if you met like in a dog show and you have seen how they treat their show dogs and they have seen your pups.

    its really up to you.

as long as you take care of ur pups, try to provide the best home for them, etc., then your an okay breeder ;)

You could make it a condition that they come to see the pup at least at a few weeks age and then agree to ship...

also i know some breeders that do this:

they offer to drive the pup( buyer pays gas prices to and from said state lol) that way you get to meet and see the home

The people who say only buy from people you have met must be nuts, or encouraging buying from BYBs. There is not a reputable breeder of each breed in every city, county, or even state. What if someone wants a picardy shepherd, for which their are only a few responsible breeders in the whole U.S.? Well, according to people here, since breeders who ship dogs are bad, that person might as well just buy from a local BYB! I think shipping dogs is fine, as long as you do it under the proper conditions and get to know the owners.

well well well, I would say no. I would not buy from a breeder that I did not meet. Much less meet the dogs. I would not find it reputable. I would not want my dogs shipped all over. If someone wants a puppy they had to come to me. I also have sold puppies all over the USA but they always have come to me. I have dogs in NV, CA, and Canada right now. (all older dogs as I dont have puppies) not one was shipped.

Oh one is also in TX.

So If they could not come here then no puppy from me.

Well my parents were breeders of Rhodesian Ridgebacks and still are. They tend to sell the pups that aren't show quality (i.e. ridgeless, kinked tails, etc.) for a lower price but never a lower standard. We sold a couple pups out of state, but the buyers had to drive to us, provide us with pictures of their home, keep us up to date on address and phone number and we guaranteed the pups for three years. We still hear from the pups' new owners and these pups are now 13 years old. And they are all alive and well and their moms and dads send us pictures and emails all the time. But we never shipped. Ever.

Acutally there are alot of reputable breeders out there that ship...But yes most of them dont due to the fact that the new owners perfer to drive to get ther pups and meet the parents..I have plent of people drive a very long way to get their pups from me and yes i perfer it that way..But there is time from time that reputable breeder ship..

I meen think about it if you want a pure greman breed Rotty from germany are you going todrive there your self...No they are imported to you..It is the same if someone lived in california and I lived in PA and they didnt have the time or money to drive so they would perfer to ship...But when a reputable breeder does ship a pup they make sure of all the requirement and make sure it is a safe time to ship..Like weather, health of the pup and so forth..But see the way I have decided to it is to have two contracts drawn up and signed way before I even ship a dog, if I dont recieve the contracts when it is time to ship they dont ship..So yes I am very causous of fling to new homes..

Also I know I am gonna get thumbs down for what I said but it is the truth and if you look in to many breed most of the breeders reputable and not so reputable ships their pups..

    Carla,

I really don't know what the question is...but any reputable breeder does not ship puppies. If you are having a hard time selling them locally then you need to stop breeding them...

In my opinion you should stop anyways.

Sounds like you're in denial about being a crappy breeder who ships dogs to strangers.

My aunt breeds dogs a ships them (the fastest way possible of course) to other breeders and such. There is always a chance of selling to a "bad" person. The best one can do is maybe to a background check or try to find out more about the costomer.
