I work with a young adult that is working on this but they are continually resistant and doesn't allow the tooth brush to touch their teeth. Any suggestions?

I worked with a young woman who was very resistant, also. I never found a way to make her like it, but she did tolerate it. Make sure you are using a very soft tooth brush, not just a soft one. Find out what the person likes and offer it as a reward contingent on cooperating with having his/her teeth brushed. Obviously, it can't be food, so maybe a favorite video, book, or maybe even some sensory reward. Use a visual schedule if necessary showing what the person will get to do after having teeth brushed.

I provide our 14mo previous the toothbrush and tell him it truly is time to comb his the teeth - contained in the interim I fill up a touch cup with some sips of water and then take over. I brush his the teeth even as "making a music" to him about brushing his the teeth. He does have a short interest span when you consider that he'd extremely play with the completed lot on the lavatory counter instead, so we brush thoroughly yet right now. If he clamps or bites the comb, i attempt to make him snigger by calling him my little monster so as that he opens his mouth and attempt back! even as i'm achieved, he receives to drink from the "large boy cup" it truly is fairly his reward, in an attempt to talk. With something else at this age, repetition and consistency are key. Our next step ought to correctly be to attempt a kiddie toothpaste, too. sturdy success :)

An electric toothbrush that has a timer is best. Some beep and some play songs which is good it lets them know how long to brush. Letting them pick out a brush with a character that they like may help too.

My sister is a specail needs young woman and she enjoys these toothbrushes that sing, haha, and we get good flavoured toothpaste... You have to work up to it. Holding the toothbrush one day, tasting a bit of the toothpaste the next. It takes time, but if you work slowly at it, you will start to see some real teeth cleaning! :) Goodluck!

Take them to the store and allow them to pick out a brush and toothpaste they like

let them pick out the toothbrush and paste and offer a reward for good brushing. also, maybe if you brushed your own teeth at the same time, they would feel more comfortable.

use a mild / gentle toothpaste such for babies. This is to prevent them from swallowing the mostly toxic ingredients found in most toothpastes these days!

Maybe let them pick their toothbrush and toothpaste out (there are so many different flavors, and different characters).
