Heavier more painful period after 1st baby?
I had my baby boy 9 months ago and he is breastfed. I have been one of those lucky women who hasn't had her period until now. I just got my period after about a year and a half. Compared to my periods before I got pregnant, where I barely had cramps and it was pretty light, it is more painful and heavier than before. Has this happened to anyone and has it stayed that way for you?

My first period after my twins (10 months later) was AWFUL! It lasted for over a week and was heavy and painful. After that one though it became regular to the day and hour. It also became less painful and has been getting lighter and gradually shorter ever since (over 2 years now). It is normal for the first one to be terrible since you haven't had it in so long.

it could just be because it is your first period in so long, your body has a lot more to expell. Generally periods stay the same or become a little less uncomfortable after having a baby, but no one is the same. There isn't really a "norm" I'd say wait until you get your next period, and see what it is like. If it is still really bad, then you may want to see your doctor to get checked out, although I grew up having a horrible cramps and periods and it was just the way I was. Maybe your next period will go back to lighter, just wait it out and see...in the mean time use hot water bottles to ease the cramps, take advil, and believe it or not exercise can make you feel better, and make your period go by faster. :o) hang in there, that time of the month is no fun for anyone!

I can't remember what the first one after baby was like but mine are generally less painful then they were before getting pregnant. I've never had really bad cramps but after having baby #1 I don't think I've had any at all. I had my second baby 10 months ago and have just had my first period again and it was okay too. Some of my mothers group said that after 1 baby they had less cramps but after second baby they have more cramps. I'm not sure why this would be. It's a shame to have to start menstruating again isn't it? I enjoyed the 18 months of no periods!

Yes but since its the first period after your childs birth it may not be that way every month. Give you body a few months to settle down.
