Big Problem With Windows Vista Home Premium?

i have a sony vaio VGN-FZ430E with windows vista and 3gb ram and 250gb hard disk drive, my problem is that sometimes when i want it to shut down(i said Shut down, NO SLEEP/HIBERNATE), it doesn't shut down, i just close all my programs and stay on the desktop(with the taskbar too but i can't open programs) so i have to turn it off with the power button, and every day i have less memory in my hard drive, i mean when i formatted my C i had 200GB free of 224GB now i have 188GB free of 224GB o.O! and i haven't installed something!!!!! no updates nothing! also i've uninstall some programs like photo edit programs, and i have less memory! o.O! i don't understand what happens about the shut down and the less memory problem. i hope u guys can help me( i have the backup files so i can format my C)

Update:

i don't have antivirus, it had it but i deleted it

Update 2:

my computer is fast, i just hate when it doesn't shut down and when i lose GBS in nothing, another thing!!!!! the first day that i formatted, i did it because i ran disk cleanup and i selected everything and i deleted system restore and shadow copies and it became slow, so i defragmented and it continued saying you have to defragment(something like that) but i did it and i continued saying that(i restarted)

Update 3:

WELL GUYS ABOUT LESS MEMORY, IT WAS THE SHADOW COPIES, I DELETED THEM FROM THE DISK CLEANUP NOW I HAVE 209GB FREE OF 224, NOW LATER I'LL SEE IF I HAVE THE SHUT DOWN PROBLEM AND I"LL LET YOU KNOW. TY! GUYS!

it could be applying the vista service pack which can take a while.

first i would try to shut it down and boot into safe mode (hard shutdown if neccessary). Then log out of safe mode and back into regular mode. Now try to shut down. It should close for you.

the shutdown process sometimes gets out of order and wont go to the next step but i find this works.

vista has good tracking so once it is started, (perhaps before you fix as above) click the start, then type in perf and press enter.

look at the hard disk and you can see exactly what application is writting to your drive ( it will list all programs with any IO to the drive and how many, and how much space used)

then look at your reliablitily report (to the left click on it) it should show you what application failed if any did fail.

The loss of space is probably due to the windows back up thingy and not clearing out your temp files. Whenever you surf the internet it leaves basically everything you visited dumped on your computer. Clear out your internet files, turn down the system restore ratio.

As for the not shutting down, thats just some program refusing to shut down, therefore halting the whole shutdown process. turn off all your programs manually by exiting them before you actually shut down.

Go to the website for the graphics card and get the driver for Vista. I use to work at Geek Squad and would see this a lot. When you install Vista you need special drivers.

Nothing is wrong with your computer, Windows Vista plain out sucks. Why do you think a bunch of Vista users switches back to the older, but much reliable XP.

Your program may be generating too many shadow files, but have you run any anti virus programs ?HAVE YOU INSTALLED sp1 ?---Try running AVG8,OR SPYBOT,OR ADVANCED WINDOWS CARE V2 from IOBIT.COM.
