What could cause my dog to have rotten smelling urine?
She just peed on the carpet and it made the whole living room smell rotten. She is potty trained and never has accidents in the house anymore. She is a 2 year old Weimariner and I have noticed her cleaning herself more that normal. She was spayed along time ago. I will take her to the vet but am very worried and was hoping someone might know what could be the problem.

it is good you are going to the vet, the smell, along with the fact that she hasn;t had any accidents in a while and she is tending to the area more sounds like it could be an infection

Kidney or thyroid problems can cause this. So can eating a large amount of broccoli, asparagus or cabbage, there's a chemical in those that makes urine smell bad.

Is she drinking more water than normal too? Diabetes is a possibility.

Infection or not drinking enough water!

Probably a urinary tract infection.
