Do I need a lawyer? possession case?
I was arrested in Alabama for possession (marijuana) and parapenalia. Both are misdemenors. Should I get a lawyer? This is my 1st offense. I have no record. Anyone with any suggestions on what I should do please let me know. Thanks.

Any case that doesn't involve a parking or speeding ticket, I would advise getting a lawyer. You would be surprised what they can negotiate for you with teh judge that you may not be able to.
Also, it's easier for them to argue for you then for you to go up infront of a judge, and prosecution (which you have never done before) and try to argue for yourself.

of course. You are looking at this going on your permanant record. Even though its a misdemenor you can still go to jail if the judge thinks you should. Having a lawyer present can talk to the judge and prosecutor to minimize the damage.

always get a lawyer when dealing with criminal charges, even when misdemeanors. A charge can follow you around for the rest of your life. A lawyer will be instrumental in getting that charge to be lessened or dropped.
A lawyer is money well spent when it comes to your future.

Use the public defender unless you have some type of case to present, because the outcome will be the same: minimal punishment, if any.

a public defender is just asking for an anal rape in prision. you need a lawyer and you need a non public defender.
