In the state of NJ do you need added insurance to use a trailer behind a truck/car?

I have a quad that I would like to haul over to a friends to go riding. If I were to purchase a trailer what do I need to do? I see plates on them, but do I need additional insurance also? Thanks.

in jersey the trailer you are pulling behing your car is insured under you auto policy fior the liability portion of it if you were to hit someone but if you trailer is damaged there will be no coverage for it to be repaired. if it is a new and expensive trailer I suggest adding it to your policy ir should not be more then 150 a year

  • That varies from state to state. I know in the state of ohio where I'm an agent, whatever you attach to your hitch is automatically covered by your auto insurance. Call your agent and ask.
