Music-related riddle 10 points to correct answer?

Apart, we are two seperate classic rock bands. Together, we are a Country music group. Who are we?

Update:

Mike, you are on the right track. Think about it a little more.

Update 2:

As seperate Rock bands, we had our share of hit songs, but more to one than the other.

One of the hit songs for one of us is frequently over-played on classic rock stations, and the other half of us has a hit with "special" meaning.

Update 3:

vwigutow, you, as well are on the right track.

Another Clue: We are brothers, and are both singers for each band.

Van Zant and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The original lead singer for Lynyrd Skynyrd (that died in the plane crash) was a Van Zant. The other two brothers have taken that over.
