Any BMW owners online?
Hi Guys,
I have just purchased a 95 N BMW 320i Tourer. Can anyone please help me. The alarm and remote central locking doesnt work. I contacted the guy who sold me it, but he's not too sure howto f ix it. He did say that the previous owner may have either turned it off or pulled the fuse out because it kept on alarming if a truck went past etc.
So it sounds like the alarm needs its sensitivity adjusted.
I owned a C220 Merc about 4 years ago, the alarm could be turned off or on by key on the alarm itself, doers the bimmer have a similar set up?
Does the alarm and remote central locking both share the same fuse?
One other thing guys, The car has done a few miles but is in very good condition apart from drivers seat worn, and passenger seat just starting to wear. Is it cheaper to get chair upholstered or to get a second hand one. Oh and where do u take it to? will an normal upholsterer do it or does it have to be a car upholsterer.
Thanks in advance guys for ur kind help
How do I adjust sensitivity.
Thankyou

I am not a mechanic, though I wish I could give you an insightful answer to your question.
I recommend taking this car to a Certified BMW mechanic near you ... they should definitely be able to resolve your problem. They work with all different years, models, ect.
Type in "BMW Mechanic" & your Location.
If no success there, try bargaining with a BMW dealer ... I've seen an older model in their workshop before.
You can always try to find mint condition seats on e bay motors. Or take it to a person who does upholstery for cars. Have you tried cleaning your seats up really well with leather cleaner & scratch filler that matches the color of your seats?

The above address are 95' 3 series seats on e bay motors.
I'm very sorry I can't answer your question in technical terms ... but, hopefully you'll find something useful in my answer ... good luck & welcome to the Bimmer Club! *lol*
I have grown up in BMW's most of my life ... I love them so much ... My family has owned some Mercedes ... but BMW's are more fun to drive & preppier looking in my opinion. *lol*
BMW's can live to 300,000 + with proper maintenance.

Congrats on the car.
We had a '96 318i. The alarm module was located behind the glove box. There was a screwdriver adjust for the sensitivity. Even with it turned all the way down, we got a ton of false alarms. I eventually pulled the plug on it. That also killed the key remote...
Have a specialty car upholsterer replace your seat covers.
VANOS (Variable Nockenwellen Steuerung) is variable valve timing in English. The VANOS unit often wears out before the rest of the motor. Your car has the M52B20 engine with a single VANOS. See the link I posted.

Check out with dealers,if is the original alarm, the dealers will help u with a little cost.
If another brand is fitted, you may require the manufacturers guarantee card, where you have a code number. The alarm code is required to reset the sensitivity.
The alarm could go off if the main relay is faulty.
Is your remote battery good-check it out too.
Check if any lights been modified. The alarm goes confused if modified in headlamp or tail lamp.
Regarding your driver,s and co drivers seat. You can always buy 2 leather seat covers or complete seat covers from dealers or their authorised agents.
I am using leather seat covers for my car.with disturbing the original seat covers.
wish you luck.
take care

If you are from North America, there were no 96 E39s. The first E39s imported into the US were called 97s. That is why you will see some products that do not refer to a 96 model. There were 96 models in Europe. For your purposes there were no differences in the lights for the 96 or 97.
