cracked tooth - what to do?

my dentist wants to put a crown on it. i'm not having any pain when eating or drinking (hot or cold). do i get it crowned? is my dentist being too aggressive???

    I would crown it or have it pulled (depending where it is) I had the same experiance. There was no pain, but as time passed, it slowly began to chip away, it is inevitable. Then you will be left with this hole that is just asking for an infection. DO NOT hesitate, trust me from experiance.

    You have to crown it. The tooth will become brittle, even though it may not be hurting you now... which is probably because it is dead. If you don't crown it, you risk losing your entire tooth... which depending on the location can be quite ugly. Even if it's in the back, your other tooth will move and shift which affects your chewing also...

    Do what your dentist says. The first poster is right, you could get an infection in the tooth and have much bigger problems. Remember recently there was a boy who died from an infection in his tooth cavity and it spread to his brain and killed him.

    it being cracked and staying that way can make the teeth around it be damaged too.

    get the crown.

    it wont hurt.

    if you dont, it could result in that area getting infected which could lead to much serious problems
