Singapore government is wiser than Malaysian government in spending public funds. The Singaporean government is aware that at the moment Singapore does not need any space program yet and perhaps in the future too, therefore there is no need to waste a few hundred million S$ to send a Singaporean to the space. The money is instead spent to bring direct benefits to Singaporeans. Malaysian government on the contrary is egoistic and always want to prove to the world that "Malaysia Boleh". Just take a look at that Malaysian guy who went to space, he did not achieve anything and it was a total waste of public funds to send him there. Malaysian space program is not even in the pipeline and yet the government has spent so much to send someone up there. The only achievement this guy can claim is the celebrity status he is enjoying now. His current status is just like the staus of movie stars or singers - going around the country meeting his fans ,signing autographs and giving some so called "motivational" talks. That's it for so much money spent

Because Singapore has other priorities esp world business and financial centres. Malaysia doesnt have space exploration and research centre yet want to act like NASA. For that sending Dr Muzafar on space trip, Malaysia paid Russian Govt RM 35 millions, read properly Tiga Puluh Lima Juta Ringgit as reported by one minister from Sabah. So where got free trip? Initially some moronic imbeciles in the cabinet suggested that Dr Muzafar do some experiment on Roti Canai and Teh Tarik. I was floored by these suggestions. roflol. Paid 35 millions to perform Teh Tarik and Roti Canai shows. arghahahaha. However, some people and the media raised a ruckus. Only then the Govt asked Muzafar to do science research. Till now still no news about the outcome. Those people in the govt are really bodoh lagi sombong. The only things they are smart at is siphoning public funds for their own gains. Science and Technology? hehehehe

Singapore now need to focus more on its growth and its people on economy, social and sports. Those are the areas where Singapore can actually profit from it and grow into a better country with its people in the long run. Sending people out of space doesn't fit in on any of those factors, so its still not worth it to invest just to send people out of space for "fun", while there are more important things to do and problems to tackle.

Singapore government will not spends this type of money, because there is no RETURN as this moment, like Malaysia, after one man return from the moon, what there get ? more investor ? more tourist ? As for Malaysia case, to send man to space is Almost FREE. ( is a exchange to Russia ,Malaysia board 30 unit of SU30 MKK from Russia ,and Russia take Palm seed ( for Palm oil ) / and one seat for Malaysia with Russia man to moon.) Maybe next order to USA for new F-16,Singapore will ask US to do so .

Singapore's Government are the most phsical "businessman". They will not do something where you need to spend alot, and get nothing in return.

That's the reason why Singapore is richer than Malaysia.

Chesney and Kingston D are correct.

Why send people to space when we can build a space port to send more people to space?

Yeah, Singapore is building a space port for space tourism in an undisclosed location. Since Singapore has world class seaport and airport, a space port is going to be built soon.

  • Not worth the investment. SIngapore needs to go on the practical approach to tap on other economies to ensure it's consistent growth. Spending on Education and training of workforce is the best bet.

Singapore do not need to do it; just because another country send their people to space. If Singapore send someone up there, then what? Appear on tv in commercials and explain to the nation what km/hr means? What is he trying to prove?

The last time they did (send someone to climb Mt. Everest for Singapore), they found out he was a Malaysian.
