Who would you save?

You're in the water and you can absolutely save only one, your wife or your 8 year old child...knowing that one will most definitely drown, who would you save? Why?

Not a trick question, just a poll.

I personally would save my child. I hope fully would want to be married to someone who will look at me in that situation and say, "Please save our child."

Update:

Another part of my reasoning would be because, having brought the child into this world, my wife and I are responsible for rearing the child--the child's safety having the highest priority in that responsibility.

    I would save my child since I dont have a wife to save, but if I did id still save my child

    i would save my child because he/she has a long life ahead of them and you could always find a new wife.

    i would say the kid just because that he has a longer life to live and well u know idk i would just save the kid!!!!! >33♥♥☻
