/\/\.. Harry Potter Fans.. Some odd questions..?

Why did Lord Voldemort award Igor Karkaroff with The Dark Mark, whereas Igor lived so far away and was feeble ??

Why do you suppose people feared the Dark Lord's name, even if they 'believed' he was gone –that is in Harry's first years-?? (I think it was Tabooed in the first war)

What do they do with the Wizard's wands after they go into Azkaban ??

If Azkaban was placed in the North Sea, how did they manage to escape it ?? [they can't swim all these miles while they are weak and wand-less (assuming that they snapped them)]

Well, he awarded Peter the dark mark, didn't he? And, like most dictators, Voldemort would want to expand his regine, so having a connection (or, rather power over) to a wizard in a far away place would be good and useful to Voldy. Also, with apperation and flying etc, getting abroud would be a rather fast process in the wizarding world.

Very good point- I could never understand the reactions of most wizards when Lord Voldemorts name was said- So, it may /have/ been tabooed yet I don't think his regime was quite as powerful as it was in the second world war- the ministry wouldn't of been quite as corrupted and Hogwarts wasn't under Death Eater control and, perhaps the most important point of all-Dumbledore was still alive. Though, if it had been tabooed, Witches/Wizards may feel like the continuous use of his name WILL raise him from the dead. He (Voldemort) would have affected most everyone in some way, and being that he was once unstoppable in his evil ways, would have scared manier wizards, even after he was gone. I'm sure, many years after his REAL death, he would still be refered to as You-Know-Who or He Who Must Not Be Named- habits and fear die hard.

The ones who are only there temporarily would have their wands kept in unsummonable safes or something similar and the Life-Sentence crims would probably have their wands snapped- they wouldn't need them..apparently..I'm not quite sure how Sirius got his wand..maybe he got a new one?

Well perhaps Sirius as a Dog could swim alot better then his human form? Or he was meant to be brilliant at school, so maybe he could do wandless apperation? As for the Death Eater break out, that escape would probably be like going on a holiday cruiseship- I really can't imagine that they had too much trouble, and they would of had alot of outside help PLUS with no Dementors, they could probably go looking for them (the ones that haven't been snapped)..but apart from that, nobody else has managed to escape..

They were really thought-provking questions! Cheers :)

    Have a great day,

    Duke :)

Why did Lord Voldemort award Igor Karkaroff with The Dark Mark, whereas Igor lived so far away and was feeble ??

Because he needed a man outside England!

Why do you suppose people feared the Dark Lord's name, even if they 'believed' he was gone –that is in Harry's first years-?? (I think it was Tabooed in the first war)

Because he did some TERRIBLE things!

What do they do with the Wizard's wands after they go into Azkaban ??

Keep them in a special place in the Ministry I guess.

If Azkaban was placed in the North Sea, how did they manage to escape it ?? [they can't swim all these miles while they are weak and wand-less (assuming that they snapped them)]

That's why no one escaped. Sirius was a dog, as for the others, they had help! You can't escape on your own!

Possibly Used Him As A Spy, Just As He Did With Snape, Or So He Thought Having A Loyal Death Eater In Places That Voldemort Could Use To Gain More Power. Didnt Exactly Work Out In The Case Of Snape.

I Think You Might Be Right Sirius P!NK. Then Again, Hermione Once Said 'Fear Of The Name Only Increases Fear Of The Thing It Self. Maybe The Wizarding World Started Fearing The Name And Therefore Began Fearing Lord Voldemort Himself Even More.

I Believe The Same Thing Happens To Prisoners Wands As What Happens To Those Who Are Expelled From Hogwarts And Possibly Other Wizarding Schools. Their Wand Is Snapped.

Maybe They Pressed The Dark Marks On Their Arms And Other Death Eaters Found Them, Same As When They Came To Lord Voldemort In The Grave Yard, At The Prison And Because The Un-captured Death Eaters Have Wands, They Can Apparate And Disapparate, Taking The Prisoners/Fellow Death Eaters To The Destination Where The Dark Lord Is.

  • Why did Lord Voldemort award Igor Karkaroff with The Dark Mark, whereas Igor lived so far away and was feeble ??--------->how do you know he was feeble? & the Death Eaters could come to him in a flash.

Why do you suppose people feared the Dark Lord's name, even if they 'believed' he was gone –that is in Harry's first years-?? (I think it was Tabooed in the first war)--------------> Well they knew that he was still lurking around somewhere. & he always was the greatest wizard of all time besides Dumbledore (terrible, but great<-- Ollivander's words)

What do they do with the Wizard's wands after they go into Azkaban ??-------------->Break em. Nah, probably just lock them up somewhere...

If Azkaban was placed in the North Sea, how did they manage to escape it ?? [they can't swim all these miles while they are weak and wand-less (assuming that they snapped them)]-------->A porkey was sent to them. & wizards can do magic without wands sometimes =]

Why did Lord Voldemort award Igor Karkaroff with The Dark Mark, whereas Igor lived so far away and was feeble ??...............before the downfall of voldemort igor karkaroff was a lot younger and not nearly as feeble has he is now, he was once a close follower of the dark lord

Why do you suppose people feared the Dark Lord's name, even if they 'believed' he was gone –that is in Harry's first years-?? (I think it was Tabooed in the first war)...................fear of a name is the fear of the thing itself, people feared what they could not defeat

What do they do with the Wizard's wands after they go into Azkaban ??............. when you faced charges of such crimes wands were taken away but as in the muggle world there are ways and means of getting round such things has we have seen

If Azkaban was placed in the North Sea, how did they manage to escape it ?? [they can't swim all these miles while they are weak and wand-less (assuming that they snapped them)]............ we mostly have help but apperating is usually a good way

Why did Lord Voldemort award Igor Karkaroff with The Dark Mark, whereas Igor lived so far away and was feeble ??

    - I think in the begining, Voldemort wanted power over everyone and anyone, and so he would even want Igor under his control as well. And maybe him being so far away was a bonus? Expand his power kind of thing.

Why do you suppose people feared the Dark Lord's name, even if they 'believed' he was gone –that is in Harry's first years-?? (I think it was Tabooed in the first war)

    - That's a very good theory (it being tabooed). Maybe it's something like saying "beetlejuice" lol If they said it enough, he'd come back. =D lol jk. I think you're right about the taboo thing.

What do they do with the Wizard's wands after they go into Azkaban ??

-Put them in a pile until they get out? Idk. I was going to say snap them in half, but then I remembered Lucious had his wand in Deathly Hallows after being in Azkaban. Unless he bought a new one, I don't think they snap them.

If Azkaban was placed in the North Sea, how did they manage to escape it ?? [they can't swim all these miles while they are weak and wand-less (assuming that they snapped them)]

Haha, this goes well with my last answer then, huh? I don't think they snap them, so maybe they used them. But for what? I don't know. I doubt you can disapparate there. As for Sirius, I think he swam out in dog form, because, wouldn't that be easier? Dogs swim faster, right? And as for the Death Eaters escape, maybe someone came for them? Brought along a ton of brooms? lol

    Hi!!

Well.. About the first question.. I think that Voldemort didn't think that distance was an obstacle to recruit Death Eaters. Besides, he was the most powerfull dark wizard ever.. That involves the whole world.. I suposse that if we can make a Death Eater's roll, we would find a lot of different members from all around the globe. And about Igor being feeble.. (feeble means weak right?).. May be Voldemort didn't payed much atention to the selection of all his Death Eaters.

Talking about the second question, I'm sure that people was afraid of the name because of what you say. During the first war Voldemort was a synonym of death, cruelty and chaos. I think that little by little poeple felt intimidated of calling him by his name.. So they started using other nicknames such as "The Dark Lord". Probably and in spite the war was over, some things can never be forgotten and people would remain calling him by those nicknames.

Finally, I would say your last 2 questions are related.

I don't know where wands are kept while their owners are in prison, but I would say that they are kept in Azkaban, somewhere safe. That might be the reason why Bellatrix, Dolohov and the others managed to escaped.

    Nice questions.. n_n!

    See you!

Igor Q: I think that Voldemort wanted a Death Eater in a different country for recruiting purposes, so who better than the Dark-Arts loving Igor Karkaroff.

Voldemort name Q: I think that Voldemort was feared by so many people that they were just very scared to even say his name anymore. Remember what Dumbledore said in HP1: "Fear of a name creates fear in the thing itself."

Wand Q: I think that were wands are either:

    a) snapped so that they can longer perform magic, unless they steal a wand. I think this option is for those who have done terrible deeds, like performing on the Unforgivable Curses on another human being.

    b) confiscated. This is just for small things, such as for robbery or breeding illegal animals.

Azkaban Q: I think that once they escape and get outside the walls of Azkaban, they're able to Apparate away from the place OR use a portkey OR fly away using brooms.

    HP rocks!!!

    :)

1 Voldemort would want to have a worldwide network of Death Eaters if possible. So having a Death eater outside Britain would be really useful. He could have more recruits. Just like Dumbledore's OotP, Charlie gets in touch with foreign wizards on his days off.

2 because they remembered the times when he was still in power. IT must've been really terrible and traumatising

3 Hmmm.... I suppose it's broken into a million pieces if they carry it with them. Or maybe the wizard or witch just leaves it at home because they won't or can't use it where they are going. Sirius did somehow manage to get a wand to battle Bellatrix in OotP. So maybe he didn't have a wand on him when entering Azkaban.

4 Umm... Voldemort helped his Death Eaters escaped. It's impossible to escape Azkaban without outside help.

    1) Maybe because Voldemort wanted Igor on his side.

    2) Because they had fear that he might rise again.

3)They probably dispose of them - break them, or lock them away in a chamber somwhere.

    4) They might have apparated after swimming in the North Sea for a bit (I'm not sure if you can apparate out of Azkaban), or they might have obtained a wand and summoned their broom. They also might have gotten some kind of creature, like a hippogriff or a thestral to fly over the North Sea.
