What are differences in British people(Britons) and Americans? I mean for culture and language, everything.?
The reason I ask this recently I watched a lovely movie called "Miss Potter" w/Ewan McGregor who I adore and Renée Zellweger. In an interview Ewan was speaking of Renée's beautifully done accent and said that she truly became a British person even while they were not filming she kept the persona not just in her accent but in the way she acted.
Just wondering what it's all about.
I know they use different words and spellings such as: behaviour, colour, rubbish, etc.. which I personally prefer these spellings and words.
What are many common words that Britons use that Americans do not and how about culture and food?
Guess this is asking a lot, but I like details, so please feel free.
Thanks.
Oh and a little history would be cool like why the differences, reasons behind them.

The best way to figure this out is to watch an American movie, and watch a British movie. But the trouble is, both have many different cultures within. I live in New York and i can hardly understand someone from Georgia with a deep accent. While they say I sound British when I talk (which is not true, but it just sounds like it to them i suppose)
Thats about the extent of accents in America though, as everyone else sounds nearly the same, excluding some lingo. (California uses the word "hella" as in, Thats hella cool, where someone on the eastern border would say thats cool as hell. Most people I know have no clue what hella is. I know because I have relative there.
England is a WHOLE other story. They have completely different accents every few miles!
Take a movie based in London, and a movie based in New York, that would give you a general understanding. Like I said though, people in New York will be different than people in other states. Same will probably go for people in London.
History goes back to when USA was colonized by England. We were actually very much like the other in attitude, but that slowly changed after our independance. First was the complete rejection of any hint of monarchy in our new government. For this watch John Adams, HBO series which dipicts this very well.
I met a foreign exchange student from England and to me, besides accent, he was the same. Just a normal teenager.

There is a enormous change among British and American Sign Language. British Sign Language is extra of a 2 passed system and is extra awkward than American Sign that is well-nigh one passed and accordingly ASL is way quicker.

the English had their culture intact for many centuries with kings and Queens..they had colonies in other countries but not many immigrating.. So the English culture and language stayed the same while they ruled India,Parts of Africa,Australia,North America(USA and Canada}...They were said rule the Sea for 50 years not sure about number..It has been a long time that I read this...They were a seafaring nation for many years... Nobility was a big thing...It also was a very poor time for the poor..many died
