God, throughout the Bible seems to be violent (Matthew 10-34 for one item) How can one believe He is kind?

I want to believe in a good, kind, loving God and did until I read the Bible through. How can one equate God being loving with all his violence and bloodthirstiness? We are all supposed to be naturally, willfully evil (original sin, but it doesn't seem that way when you observe a child) and doomed to fry in hell unless we conform to his will. This does not seem very loving. How can I find the true nature of God without contradictions?

Understand there are principles and precepts that God created that even He cannot violate.

How can you possibly imagine to know the mind of God??

Sounds like you read somebody's post - not the Bible.

The world was a rough place back in ancient times, and human life was very cheap.

The Israelis had to deal with extremely violent, bloodthirsty cultures all around them, and their survival was very important to God because they would bring about the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Even the Old Testament has far more about God being just and good than what you are describing - if you read it you would see that. The wars in it are mostly caused by people - not God.

And the culture that God told them to wipe out may have deserved it - one custom from cultures of that time was to murder your first born child and put it in the walls of your house for good luck! Human sacrifice, torture, rape and murder were commonplace things! God knew just what he was doing.

Then again, I see what you mean. God's will is not for us to suffer. But why, you ask, are we, from birth, doomed for hell? The answer? God is not the one who gave us our sinful desires. But when Adam turned away from the Lord, his creator, God still had mercy on him, and promised Adam that a savior would come for him. Like a father who disciplines his son, God rebuked His people in Israel. He set an example for the rest of history. So a few men (comparatively speaking) die. But through the example, many, many more are saved.

Hello, god is a power that runs through this universe and he gave us our free will to be good or bad.You can see god in the miracles of life (a new born baby) a smile in someones face ,a kindness shown,a flower, birds and in every living thing.People make things so complicated with all these fancy words but life is just a beautiful place it is only us that make it hell on earth.Be kind to yourself and others and that kindness will come back to you.Go through your life as an example to what god would like you to be.It is not so difficult as you think only man makes it that way.

Matthew 10:34 "Think not that I send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."

Christ brought division among the earth. He came to confirm and justify Our Father, God. God send His only begotten son to die for our sins and only through Christ will one be able to get to know The Father, God. Christ division is His Word. From the beginning man have been divided by their FAITH, even among their own families. There are NO CONTRADICTIONS about this verse but only indicates the TRUTH.

    AMEN! GOD BLESS! SHALOM!

The contradictions are not in the bible, they are in your head. Think about it this way, suppose you run accross a rabid animal. It's foaming at the mouth and miserably insane. What do you do? You can't really comfort an animal with rabbies except to put it out of its misery. I think it's similar with God and man. Evil men are essentially miserable men, and deep down just want to be put out of their misery. One of Jesus' parables, I think it's the one about the bridesmaids waiting for the wedding party to arrive, at the conclusion of the parable he says of those left outside or basically in hell that they are 'gnashing their teeth'. These are some pretty ticked-off people to be gnashing their teeth, and hate-filled people aren't looking for forgiveness or reconciliation. The love of God consumes all of that hate and it is annihillated. All throughout the bible God consistently let's people know what the deal is and let's them make their own decisions. God says, "I set before you blessings and curses' and then let's us make our own choices.

I have been misrepresented by those who don't know me. John 8:41-44

I am not distant and angry, but am the complete expression of love. 1 John 4:16

And it is my desire to lavish my love on you. 1 John 3:1

Simply because you are my child and I am your Father. 1 John 3:1

The bible is cleverly written by the Jews to favor them.

    God existed/exist everywhere without religion.

The Jews claimed they are the chosen ones meaning God is racist? The Jews were the blessed ones according to the bible.

I can sense another man made attempt to manipulate other. Unfortunately other people fell for it. The Chinese and Indians do well without all these bible craps.

Some races just jump for it and end up being continuously duped.

    Shame.

Matthew 10:34 doesn't refer to actual swords but to the nature of spiritual warfare that a Christian must live.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

You might also want to look into Christian Universalism.

There are battles that need to be fought, everybody realises that. There is good and evil, there are people who must be opposed. To the Christian there are angels and powers that must be opposed too.

to put simple logic to it, the parts of the bible where god is vengeful and smites people are from a book he gave to the Israelites.

god needed a hardcore group of followers, he needed a people through witch he would deliver Jesus. the savior of the whole world. and god's vengeful stories are basically his way of saying to the Israelites; you and your time are important and i need this to go off without a hitch(Jesus life in general) so I'm going to be serious for a while if you don't take it serious for a while too, i will kill you! simple as.

so you need to go to church every week, and not be homosexual, as i need you to make lots more Israelites, and not mess around, or your salt. or at the very least I'll have your fellow Israelites stone you to death.

and this approach worked as Jesus was able to pay for our sins etc.....

God made us in his image, and like us, sometimes he needs to get buissness taken care of, and can't be all lovey dovey.

but afterward he is more forgiving to others, since now he can let them into heaven as they are absolved of sin by Jesus
