A small 3/4 size classical one with nylon strings is good for a beginner. Metal strings can hurt small hands! They are quite cheap as well but brilliant to learn on.

Go with the usual sized one! That method, if she REALLY will get into guitar, the usual sized one will final her decades. I discovered to play guitar while I was once 10, and I had a usual dimension guitar. It was once a bit of giant, however as soon as I grew into it it i would hold it for decades! Just for the sake of now not having to move purchase yet another guitar one day if she loves it, opt for the usual dimension!!!! I feel your ten-yr-historic will respect that you just feel she is historic ample to manage a guitar.

Buy her something inexpensive and here is why. A lot of folks want to play the guitar, but few commit to the practice it takes to master it.
By the way, Guitar Hero and a real guitar are NOT alike in any way with regard to playing them.
