I own 3 Dell Notebook PCs and if I were in your shoes, I would run the comprehensive Dell Diagnostics program that normally is (i) preloaded, (ii) found on or in your Dell Resource CD or (iii) you can download from the Dell Technical Support website. I bought one of my Dell Notebook PCs used coming off of lease and had noticed when installing everything and checking it out more thoroughly that running the Dell Diagnostics program, it said the fan was not working despite the Notebook PC running okay. Anyway, later I was tinkering around and happen to remove some screws & plate on the bottom, and guess what: there was a gob or sizable hairball sitting in front of what appeared to be the fan.

Besides running the Dell Diagnostics program, the great thing Iike about the Dell Technical Support website is that Dell has the Service Manual for your particular Notebook PC on-line that allows you to tinker with caution in Doing Minor Repairs yourself...as it will show you the disassembly steps etc

    Hope the Above Info Helps!

Either take it into a computer shop.

Or (if it's a laptop) get two cd cases or something, and prop it up, so that air can circulate under it. Also what are you doing when it overheats, Like mine used to overheat when i ran Guild Wars because it took so much out of it.
