environmental issues are extremely important to me. im always talking to my friends and family about things they can do to improve the environment and reduce their contribution to unnecessary waste and global warming.

i would be favor of requiring homes to be built using eco friendly materials. i read an article recently about the benefits of building homes using recycled materials and combination formulas as well as geothermal heating/air conditioning. although im only 18, i plan to consider all the available resources when i buy a home. it would be great if this were the standard for building homes and a bit more affordable in the initial cost- they have many ways of imitating wood products for the sake of conventional beauty in the home. a lot of people use this as an excuse to discard other options. its also less expensive in the long run.

again, id love to have this as the standard in american society. although we are behind in things like the kyoto plan, it would speak volumes if we pioneered the way to environmentally friendly homes on a national scale. that isnt likely to happen though. if it did prices would have to be much more affordable. its kind of like why are we going to be required to adjust to new television hd sets in 2009 instead of improving the environment?? crazy. still there are good things done to bring awareness. theres actually an annual competition among colleges to see who can build the best energy efficient home. very cool you should check it out. i think its called the Solar Decathlon.

i think its both. the government could make it a hell of a lot easier. i bring up the kyoto plan again because we are the only country not onboard with it. clinton agreed to it but then bush decided to withdraw. how stupid does that make us look as a nation? platsic bags should be banned in all states. i thin kthe government should treat this more or less as one of the situations that requires government action for the good of the people. somehow there are still people who havent connected the dots between pollution, waste, global warming, and an increase in natural disasters in the recent past and present. droughts and flooding ? innocent people dying or losing their homes and communities? does this not scream "a matter of importance" to the geniuses running this country? of course taking legal action against corporations who arent very eco friendly (the biggest and well known in the business) wouldnt be too high on this administrations priority list. republicans and conservatives are best friends with big corporations and as long as the people arent willing to fight this for their own benefit then not much will change on a political level. still every bit counts. i can honestly say that americans are some of the most wasteful people on the planet. in certain parts of europe if not all, theydont give out plastic cups in restaurants or drive throughs - they resuse glass bottles. they drive less. its all just very disappointing. i also think people need to take responsibility. i understand that most people just arent informed so i try to inform anyone willing to listen because even if they dont transform over night perhaps they will remember something that ive said to them the next time theyre faced with the decision to accept a plastic bag for a small purchase or throw away a can instead of walking a few feet to recycle it. we are all responsible for one another in that way - to spread knowledge. so even though its frustrating we have to treat it like a collective effort. however it pisses me off beyond belief when you have conservatives who deny that there is a problem with the environment. lol you have no idea.

    1. Environmental issues are somewhat important to me.

    2. Yes, it would be great if some alternative such as green/recycled material was used to build homes because it would cut down on waste and be better for the environment overall (but it would need to be cost efficient).

    3. Solar panels and energy efficient appliances would be great in any home and would definitely decrease energy usage.

    4. It is the responsibility of anyone and everyone that lives here to take care of our planet. Although I feel the bulk of the responsibility lies in the hands of the citizens, we must all take action in order to conserve our environment.

Environmental question: Not very important. I used to be but I have been reading more and now find out that the earth has cooled since 2000 and not increased in temp. Also read the Hurricanes have actually decreased in frequency and they are not caused by man made global warming. And to think I believed in Al Gore's movie....the whole Global Warming is scare mongering to get more money from people.

Home Question: Only if it is same cost as existing materials. I do not want to make homes more expensive. The more expensive a home is the less people can buy it. The well to do and rich should not be the only ones able to afford a decent home.

Panels and Appliances: Nothing should be mandated. There should be voluntary tax breaks or rebates to encourage home owners to become energy efficient.

It's a combination. The government can be strong armed or it can work with the people and give incentives etc... for people to become more fuel efficient.

Environmental issues are somewhat important to me.

I am not in favor of requiring homes to be built using green/recycled material, because I think that would further injure the already ailing housing market.

I feel that requiring solar panels and energy efficient appliances is good idea, if provisions are made. For example, it should only apply to newly built homes. Solar panels should not be required in non-sunny areas (e.g. Seattle); appliances are good but should only apply to new homes.

I think that it is mostly the citizens' responsibility to conserve our environment. The government has a lot of other stuff to do... we should do as much as we can and then get the government to do the massive (international) stuff.

Are you in favor of requiring homes being constructed using green/recycled material? Please explain.i dont think it should be required, but some houses should be constructed of it, becuz we need all the help we can get rite now, before it's too late.

How do you feel about requiring solar panels & energy efficient appliances be included in a home? Please explain.

i dont think it shuld be required, becuz some ppl mite not be able to afford it. if it wuld be given to people free, then it shuld be required.

Do you think it is mostly the government's or the citizens' responsibility to conserve our environment? Please explain.

i think the responsibility is both the citizens' and the government's. we are all people living on this planet, therefore we shuld all be helping to protect/conserve it.

Uh...female, 14, Christian..i'm pretty sure im not married. haha ...anyway environmental issues are a serious issue to me. I want my children to live where the sky is still blue, and endangered animals still exist. I don't think that houses necessarily need to be made out of recycled material. I think it really matters on what the people inside the house do. They should recycle. Also solar panels are really awesome and save a lot of energy, however, one has to be living in the right conditions for those. (aka in a place that gets a ton of sun :]) As for the last question, I honestly believe it is both the governments responsibility and the citizens. Sure the government can pass laws, but it's the people that carry them out. Hope that helps!

    *Very important

*Yes, because it recycling helps the environment

*Like the idea, energy efficient appliances not only help the environment, but save money in the long run

*It's both the citizens and the government's responsibility to conserve our environment, both should be very involved and do what they can to save the earths resources.

Enviromental issues have become more and more important to me over the years. People don't realize what they're doing to the enviroment, who knows how long the Earth's life has been shortened.

Only in favor if they are reliable, no one wants a crappily-built house.

They definitely should be used more often, they would do less damage to the enviroment while still doing the same job as the less-enviromentally-efficient ones.

Actually, it's both in my opinion. The government could do their part by helping control the littering laws, and what the area does to their enviroment. But it's also the citizens responsibilty to abide by the laws considering the enviroment and realize that the enviroment is one of a kind.

Very. the enviroment is the most important thing there is. without it we wouldn't be here! so we need to take care of it.

Are you in favor of requiring homes being constructed using green/recycled material? Please explain.

    Yes

How do you feel about requiring solar panels & energy efficient appliances be included in a home? Please explain.

    Sure

Do you think it is mostly the government's or the citizens' responsibility to conserve our environment? Please explain.-

Both. Mostly the citizens. every Citizen should be responsible for doing their part if they care about the earth and living!

Gender: Age: Ethnicity: Religion: Job: Married/Single: # of Children: Male 32 Hispanic Catholic Education Married 1 girl. How important are environmental issues to you? not at all, somewhat, or very? Somewhat, but with growing interests. Are you in favor of requiring homes being constructed using green/recycled material? Please explain. I would say yes, but in reality, it would all depend on the added costs of having to use recycled materials. You are not going to get anyone to use the technologies avaialble is there is a cheaper way of doing things. Even going green today is a business. Where we live it gets up to 115 degrees daily. This would be perfect for solar panels and such and would really cut the electrical consumption and water heating down considerably. The problem is that the technology right now costs too much. Its really made for people that are well off and use "going green" as a trend. How do you feel about requiring solar panels & energy efficient appliances be included in a home? Please explain. Again, all in favor of it, but the technology has to be cheaper. I'm sure it will head in that direction, but its not there now. Same thing happend with the electrical car. Would have done a world of good, but were to expensive and would have removed the dependancy of oil away from this country... can't have that. Do you think it is mostly the government's or the citizens' responsibility to conserve our environment? Please explain. Seeing as government is supposed to be about the citizens (or at least should be in a perfect world) it is the responsibility of both to be able to do it. Citizens have the responsibility to push their representatives to act in the environment.
