Are you talking about NY City? It really depends on how old you are. I have been to Florida and to NYC. Florida was great. Here's the way I look at it.
NYC:
Pros - High re-sale value, High Paying and Plentiful Employment.
Cons - Hard time finding a place to live, busy lifestyle, polution.
Florida:
Pros - Entertainment, Cheap living, Weather is great
Cons - Poor employment, low resale value

Will you have a very good paying job? If you do, you will have no problem paying the high rents of NY unless you're looking to move to one of the outer boroughs.
I love NYC (born and raised) but I can no longer afford living there on my income. Because of the convenience (commuting is so easy), I wish I was still living there.

I live in Scotland where Summer weather doesn't exist, I spent 4 days in New York and If I won the lottery I'd be buying a penthouse there quicker than you can say business class flight.
