Painting with a cockatoo in the house?
How can I assure my bird's safety when I paint the inside of my house? He can't stay outside at night or sleep with all the windows open.
I'll be using latex paint, and there are brands which supposedly have fewer fumes, but I don't want to endanger my guy!
Thanks.

Your best bet is to take his cage outside for the time being while your painting and letting it dry... Be sure get let air in aswell to get that paint smell out as birds can react and die from fumes from chemicals... You need to either take him to a friends house for a few days, or only paint one area at a time. Paint one room, and keep the bird in another room with the door closed, etc...

use a paint with low or no VOS. We just painted our entire house...and you can't smell any fumes. they use this paint for schools and nursing homes. We got ours at lowes...alot of people on my bird groups have safley used low VOS paint and just moved their birds to other areas of the house while the paint dried.

You know I wouldnt take any chances, I would board him for 4-5 days. Their lungs are very delicate. you dont want to chance it and find him at the bottom of the cage.
