possible tranny problem?
My 2004 ford focus with a 5 speed is making a kind of howling or gurguling sound from the tranny from idle to about 2500 rpm. And I know it is not the engine cause i can depress the clutch or put in neutral and it sounds just fine. Also when I let off the gas sometimes it makes a clunk at normal driving speeds, could this be a CV joint going bad? Also when a CV joint goes bad will it cause vibrations or anything or do they just break

Well, you need to start with a process of elimination.
1st check the cv axle boots under the front both side make sure they aren't torn or missing
2nd find the dipstick or filler plug and check the transmission fluid, check for brown or dark color, smells burnt, and metallic particles, check for leaks if the transmission is low.
Cv axles will usually start to click or tick when turning corners .. some things to be aware of. Hope this was helpful!

It sounds like the throwout bearing is go out to me .For as the cv joint goes .It can vibrate and pop. It mite go at once are it may take awhile.

i do no longer think of this could properly be a trans. issue. once you do a typical (?), uncomplicated acceleration, does the trans. shift ok? If it shifts ok, then it is a few thing else and not the trans. sounds like a loss of means in the engine. there is a lot of reasons for loss of means......undesirable EGR, blocked catalytic converter, undesirable gas pump, blocked gas filter out, undesirable plug wires, undesirable gas stress regulator...just to call some. while replaced into the final time it replaced into tuned up?
