Auto Question? 91 Grand Prix?

Hi,

I had some promblems with my water pump leaking so i had it replaced. But the temp was still High, I checked under the hood and say some smoke out of the raditor which never happend before the raditor is new.

So could it be because the fans are not running and there is a new pump that causeing the smole or is it something else. I planing on connecting the fans to a small motor so that the fans which work fine will run all the time and cool it down.

Please help points will be given please respond ASAP. TY

If your fans are not running, and temp is high and you see smoke from anti freeze then it is most likely over heating because the fans are not running to cool engine. If this doesn't fix over heating problem check thermostat. Question when radiator was installed and filled with fluid did you let car run with radiator cap of until it burped all the air out? if not radiator is vapor locked. If these things are not the problems, take to repair shop.

has anyone checked the thermostat? and I wouldn't recommend hooking up your fan to run all the time I would suggest installing a toggle switch to turn it off and on when needed, i would also try running the heater full blast once to see if the temp goes down, it may also have something to do with the heater core, i went through the same dilemma, and it was frustrating, it turned out to be the thermostat, even though it had been replaced, it was defective, which is not that unusual
