July Issue of Vogue Italia to feature all Black Models?

There have been complaints that the fashion industry do not use a diverse range of women. So Vogue Italia have decided to pave the way to do an all black issue.

What do you think of this? Exploitative or Groundbreaking?

Also, should US Vogue (considering black population is 13%) or UK Vogue have used this concept first?

To think that the world has come to the point where a magazine single handingly has to feature only black models throughout the entire issue, is quite frankly saddening. If black models, and all models of other races, were incorporated into high fashion magazines regularly, we would not have to resort to this. I applaud Mario Testino, however, who is rumored to have shot the all-black issue of Vogue Italia, for stepping up to the plate and offering his talent to the magazine.

Mrs G, how ignorant of you to say most of the black models are not attractive. Why would they even be models if a agency picked them up and worked with them? Im sure they found something attractive about them? Can you answer that you stupid cu nt?

Second of all not ALL "black people" are complaining about this whole thing. Mostly its other magazine publishers and designers noticing that their are alot of non white faces on the runway and of course the media is putting a spotlight on this issue to. So spare me the bull sh it that only "blacks" are playing victim again and trying to start something.

Third, african americans would not have to have "exclusive" things themselves (as other minorities too like asians, spanish etc.) if maybe the ones dominating the fashion industry right now would appreciate ALL beauty whether its from different skin colors, nationalities, size and whatever. So give me a break that "black people have their own magazine" tirad is over used since 90% of everything is basically all white. You have your damn white only everytime you flip a tv channel and everytime you see a book place with ebony/jet/essence mag sitting in the cut around a sea of white mags.

Now for the question, i dont really give a damn whether they make this all black italia vogue mag. It really proves nothing and all its saying is "look at me im being progressive with all blacks this time, see." and then they will go back to their ways. If they really want to be progressive they would throw some blacks on the cover issues and fashion spreads sometime in a row, not once every 5 years.

Another thing, african americans (and other minorities) use products just like caucasions. I doubt America right now is 80% white while the other 20% is "other". There are so many mixed people now a days and minorities. Im going to check a statistic on that.

I think it's fabu. It goes to show u that Europeans are more open minded than Americans. Besides, my friend went to Italy for a job & she said Italian men love black women

I think that it's natural for the country's majority race to be in the magazines etc

I think it's a big statement they're making about doing an all black issue though.

The fashion industry does incorporate ethnic people in their advertising but, again, they would mainly use the race that is the majority of the country the company is based in.

i think this is a good idea since a lot of magazines have almost all white models and no one really complains about it...i think it would be pretty cool...but then again what about the other races besides black&white

  • Even though I am not black at all, I don't see anything bad about it. If the blacks think that it is not fair, then Vogue Italia proved tgier point and now will make it more diverted.

Isnt this pure Racist !! What would happen if it was all White models - so what are we saying - more Black models should be used - just for the sake of it - and to make up a percentage figure - who knows - maybe there are not that many Black model's attractive enough to appear in the magazines..
