Would there be a dispute over "Macedonia" if Yugoslavia as a country did not split up?

I'm not trying to stir up any emotions, just wanted to know what could have been?

Also ,if Fyromians were part of Yugoslavia, why the sudden urge?

Why didn't they lay claim when they were part of Yugoslavia?

To answer your question I think this would have a problem in the long run. Tito made a country out of many Slavic people and when he died the country fail apart. The FYROM area's name was Vardascar But he changed to Macedonia around 1939 in order to keep the Vardacar population together since it was composed of Bulgarians, Albanians, and Gypsies. So he gave them a name that every one would be proud of being Macedonias and tought them in schools

that they were the real Macedonias but the reality is that the original Macedonias were Greeks over 3000 yars ago and Alexander was the founder of the Hellenic Nation. Greece is part of NATO

but Yougoslavia was not so that kept a seperation of countries between Greece and Yougoslavia so everything was quite but if there was a war between NATO and The Communist block countries that would have been a big problem because the people of Vardascar had ideas that are showing today, since they believe that they are the Mediterranian Macedonians, and we took over Macedonia from them. Now that Tito is dead and Yougoslavia does not exist and NATO is the only power in the area they want to claim what they believe is their land. But I feel sory for them because they are misleaded and they are claiming teretories

that their population is not large enough to corespond to the land taritory they are claiming. Their recent election, the way it was handled, showed the division of these people. So to them is not only an identity problem but also a matter of survival. By making these claims, get them nowhere and perhaps we are looking another Kosovo near our border line.

So this is something that is not happening now but was burning since Tito's time and was looking for a reason to happen.

This is 5 questions. 1) I will try 2) Very well thank you 3) No, there is no war. 4) There are many rivers. Please, define river and I will revert with state chemist evaluations. 5) This is hardly a valid question as Macedonia is not a country but part of Greece which you mention as well. Please, rephrase and I shall revert. I think I should get 10 points as it is 5 replies.

    Islander, you're wrong.

1.) Yugoslavia didn't fall apart when Tito died, it fell apart 11 years later, because of the Serbian politics. The Serbs wanted to create "Great Serbia" and were disrespectful to the other nationalities; logically, those other nationalities - Slovenians, Croatians, Bosnians and Macedonians didn't like that, so they chose to become separate countries and some of them had to experience a terrible war because of that.

2.) Macedonia (as a former Yugoslav republic) didn't consist of Albanians, Bulgarians and Gypsies. The majority of its inhabitants were always Slavic.

3.) I don't think that Tito ever wanted to have an exit to Aegean sea or cause problems with Greece, as you're all claiming. We had Adriatic sea and that was quite enough.

Questions about this issue have become really lame, I don't want to start a fight here but I had to correct some mistakes you made.

    No dear,

There wouldn't be a dispute for the name, if Yugoslavia was still a country.

Greece has used the term Makedonia long before the split of Yugoslavia

There were 2 newspapers with this term

(1890 something) and (1910)(GREEK NEWSPAPERS ------edit for Plostad was that-----------,And this is to prove you that Greeks always considered Makedonia part of Greece)

The Ministry of Makedonia and Thrace exist since 1985

The Makedonian museum exist since 1978

The Kavala's airport is name Alexander the great since 1956

The museum of the Makedonian struggle exists since 1982

Μakedoniko tsipouro Tsantalis(protected by name and toponymy copyright)-since 1938

The misi If you stop with your propaganda.

So plostad can now realized how misinformed he is....

these are for proving that Greece always consider Makedonia as a part of it (because always were)

Then,I advice him,to protect the REAL Albanian minority which exists in Fyrom and has no rights and always abused, than the so called minority of the 3.000 Fyromians in Greece

The treaty of Bucharest says about Bulgaria ,Serbia and Greece(as Zoi told)

so which was your part dear "Makedonians?"

And PLEASE PLEASE find me a text(legal or govermental-international) with the reference Aegean Makedonia...

    guess you can't find any.....

and before 1913 we didn't have a part of it,but we had under Ottoman empire,Its was Greek during Ottoman empire, and it was before this also.....

SO you take Makedonia as yours, just because was under BULGARIANA for 80-90 years????

and we talk here about 3.000 years history.....

That's a very correct point. If Yugoslavia existed today then it wouldn't be an issue but Tito needed an exit to the Aegean sea through Greece that's why he wanted to create an unstable situation in the region ( to favourite his long-term goals) If Tito was alive l think he would be very pleased and proud with the strategy of his brothers the FYROMians but he would be very disappointed that FYROMians are USA puppies.

There would never be dispute about the name if you people are not afraid to admit that a huge number of Macedonian minority lives there. If you admit that that people have every human and civil right. If you stop with your propaganda.

How sudenly Tito is "quilty" for Macedonian identity? How did he "invent" Macedonians. You all know much better then that. Why you changed the name of North Greece into Makedonia only 3-4 years before the spliting of Yugoslavia? It was clear that Yugoslavia will split into 5-6 smaller countries (ex republics in Yugoslavia), it was clear that our country will keep our own name Macedonia (in Yugolsavia the name was Socialistic Republic of Macedonia, and now because of our new political and social establishment the word Socialistic was erased, and naturaly stayed Republic of Macedonia).

Why you didn't ask this "problem" about the name to solve before, while Yugoslavia still existed? Why at that time Macedonia was not a "problem" for you?

    Edit:

Bibi your coment " There were 2 newspapers with this term

(1890 something) and (1910)" is telling us that Macedonia and Macedonians existed much more longer and that is not Tito's invent. have you forgotten that before 1913 Greece didn't have the part of Macedonia - Aegean (Egejska) Macedonia? It was only one MACEDONIA at that time, and greece was other musch smaller country then today.

This dispute over macedonia soon will be over. As Yugoslavia splted up, very soon FYROM will split up too. We will be given our parts, Albania will take their part and Bulgaia will be satisfied too.

Islander has said it all. I just would like to add that as we see from your link, Yugoslavia was an unstable country, newly formed and changing name and borders constantly.

So I am not surprised of those people claiming false dates and false changes in Greece,in order to make us look bad, since they never saw any political stability in their country.
