Can I mount my flatscreen in my apartment?

I just bought a new 42" Plasma, and I'd like to mount it on the all above the fireplace. What are the general guidelines on mounting something so heavy on the wall of a rented space? Can I get away with it? How hard will it be to repair when I move out?

Rules may vary with the building, but in general you can probably assume anything you do must be repaired / returned to normal when you move out. That said, I suggest you ask the building superintendent before proceeding just to be sure. That could also help identify special issues like whether you have metal studs in the wall or concrete block or ... (you get the point).

There should be no big problem mounting a flatscreen TV on the wall. Mounting brackets are fixed with screws into either the underlying studs or suitable anchors. Removing them should involve minor patching and repainting (which the apt. should get before re-renting anyway)

Now, turning to the question of whether wall mounting is desirable. Above a fireplace is often not recommended because of possible heat issues. In addition it probably puts the TV too high for optimum viewing (You ideally want to have eye height be 1/3 to 1/2 of the height of the screen, which means for most flatscreens you would want the bottom edge about 2' above the floor). The other issue is where do you buy other components and how do you hide the wires.

you've had alot of advice. there are diverse fireplaces with out studs above because the hearth is secured from the perimeters or base. so a approaches because the gap between each and each stud is determined through even if that's a interior wall or an outdoors wall or perhaps then it may very because of the builder. maximum probably in case you used a stud finder there is not any stud and it really is not uncommon. it must be quite stupid to mount it with out attaching to achievable-free position. Your proper wager is the ceiling in case you do not wish too open up the drywall and position achievable-free stud your self. alongside the nook of the wall to the ceiling there must be a beam that you'll safeguard a bracket of a few type that ought to carry close right down to mount the television. so a approaches as warmth from a hearth, that's incredible how that section would not warmth up like someone ought to imagine it ought to if the hearth is operating magnificent. certain us woman do know alittle about carpentry and the weird approaches a builder likes to diminish corners.
