What does sketchy mean to you?

If you think of an artist drawing his preliminary sketches, before completing a painting, the sketch is just a basic outline, it doesn't give much information about the colour, depth or impact of the finished picture.

Therefore when someone says something is sketchy, I would say it means that you have only got a rough outline of what is going on and its not as informative as you might like.

Example would be that if you were organising a party and someone asked you for details of who was coming you could say, 'well the guest list is a bit sketchy at the moment.'

The word sketchy is often used to describe things that you might want to avoid, or are of a questionable source or nature. The writer of this passage apparently got the creeps while staying in Limon for whatever reason, probably from the Hotel he/she stayed at. You can talk about a person as being sketchy as well. It would mean that they are suspicious somehow. They make you wonder if they don't have some kind of secret. What are they hiding? Or perhaps you simply sense something weird about them but cannot put your finger on it. Hope that helps!

It started out meaning incomplete, not fully fleshed out or vague with only a rough idea as in "a sketchy idea of what to do next year"

I always take sketchy to mean a bit dodgy and not 100% clear/truthful

Sketchy means not having all the details.

giving only major points; lacking completeness; "a sketchy account"; "details of the plan remain sketchy"

Sketchy = dodgy or vague, not much detail

That's my interpretation of it anyway

I did know once, but it's all a bit vague now - must be getting old.

I always thought it meant ambiguous.
