Why does the price of almost everything at Walmart end in an 8?

I just find this curious... I was looking at my receipt from yesterday and all but one item ended in 8. The one that didn't ended in 4. Can anyone explain this?

It is a psych tool. You think you are getting a better deal by the price ending in 8 than if it ended in 9 or even .00

Just a marketing ploy is all it is.

Well this is just a guess: Most places will advertise something as $4.99 rather than $5 so we perceive it as being cheaper. This has been done for so long that we're used to it, so I suppose that Wal-Mart would mark the same product as $4.98 for the same reason. We'll perceive it as a better deal.

Or maybe their marketing department determined that we like 8's... I dunno.

when something ends in an 8,

it usually means it was marked down.

it's to make you think it's less expensive, because 8 is lower then 9

Advertising. It makes things look cheaper.
