Ring of Fire by June Cash, recorded and performed by Johnny Cash. It has a humorous but stern quality about it, and has survived decades undiminished. It is a classic.

Let me explain why I think it is great. First of all, it is a love song, but the imagery is stark and totally unexpected. Love is like walking into a burning ring of fire, it is scary, and it makes you feel like you are trapped. And to top it off, the lyric was conceived by a woman, which is all the more unusual, because the execution is more like something a man would write, and the choice of accompaniment, with the Mariachi-like trumpets, makes for an unforgettable hook. It is unique among Cash tunes, and unique in country music repertoire.

And believe me, I am not a big fan of country music, more into Blues, Jazz, Rock 'N' Roll, etc. Despise jungle music, rap, etc.

The only country song I like is When The Sun Goes Down by Kenny Chesney
