Well adding memory is the most common way to speed up a computer, though there a lot of other ways of doing so. Anywho I have noticed that memory increased performance because it a allows more software to be running at the same time (Some programs start up without you knowing) and it speeds up boot time...just watch out for the memory speed some stores will sell it cheap but it's really slow. If you are going to buy more memory aim for at least PC 5300 or higher.
Another thing that could speed up your computer is cleaning it out like uninstalling software you don't use anymore.
Something else u can do if your using Windows XP is Right-Click My Computer and click Properties. When the window pops up click the Advanced tab. Under the performance section click that button (Can't remember what it's called out the top of my head). It should give 3 options Like:
Let Windows adjust my Performance
Adjust for best performance
Adjust for best Visual (or something like that)
and then there a a bunch of checks below that...ignore those and click Adjust for best performance.
If ur using Vista I believe its the same but I'm not 100%.

Adding memory does nothing to increase processing power in your computer. You still have the same CPU and motherboard so nothing has changed.
Adding memory will allow applications to use physical memory rather than using the swap file to store needed data on the hard drive. That is where a speed increase will occur; there are fewer disk reads/writes because the data is immediately available in physical memory.
Graphics programs, databases, and large spreadsheets (and most new games) can benefit substantially from more memory. But, your processor will not process the data any faster than it did before you added the memory.

Depends if you add more RAM to the computer, you will see an improvement. If you just had more memory, no not so much. It's the system memory, which is the RAM, with that and the type of proccessor is where the computer preformance is handle.
The hard drive space,is just so you can store more stuff on your computer.

they are having a keep in mind the 60's week on radio York and that is totally emotive. Beehive hairdo's, mini skirts and autos, each and all of the previous songs and communities, flower skill, loose love and the creation of the pill, dinner events the place you ate tinned ravioli, spag. bol.,blackforest gateaux, flambes, cherries jubilee, crepes suzette and washed them down with chianti interior the ruffina bottles which then have been prized as candle holders, liebfraumilche, black tower, babycham, ponys, toddler seals and lambrusco - and we concept we've been the bees knees! Very loose, hassle-free and happy days - large to have lived by way of them. Edit: hi elsie 19, particular i keep in mind how very useful those days have been too. shall we bypass off from dawn till at last nightfall with a bag of sandwiches and buns and a few pop, in some circumstances there have been around twenty persons, we appeared after one yet another, ran, laughed, climbed timber, outfitted dens and did no longer have a care interior the worldwide. We did no longer have paedophiles then - or i ought to declare they weren't as glaring! and a homicide made the headlines for a minimum of a week. i replaced into born in 1951 merely after rationing had disolved, my father replaced right into a farmer and we actually did have the perfect nutrition available, all clean and abode grown - yet seasonal - no tomatoes at christmas in those days! i in my view do think of my technology have been so very, very, fortunate with the monstrous variations we experienced. My young ones think of its hilarious that we had black and white television yet we merely have been provided that throughout the time of 1957! no television before that!

recently, I bought 2x 1gb sticks to replace an aging 2x 512mb set. The performance gain was tremendous...most I have seen from a ram upgrade in a while. If you are running vista, and move from 1gb to 2gb...you will notice a similar gain. To get the most out of the upgrade, though, you want to try and populate more than just one dimm slot so you can utilize the benefits of "dual-channel" mode (if your motherboard supports that.) For example: Say you are running 2 512mb sticks and you want to upgrade to 2gb total, and you have 3 available slots.....don't simply get a 1gb stick and pop it in. Get a 2x 1gb set and run them in dual channel mode...then you will definately notice the difference.
