How can I tell how many amps and volts are running off my breaker box?

I need to install a new pool pump. I have to wire it based on the amps and volts the circuit breaker box has. How can I figure out the amps and volts? Thanks.

Look at the breaker where the old pump was. On the breaker you will see the amp rating of that particular breaker. Then check the plate on the motor and make sure the new motor's amp rating falls below what the old breaker is rated at.

Refer to the plate again for the voltage required on the old and the new one is the same also. You would have to pull the breaker panel off to check the voltage at the breaker, or, at the old pump, check the voltage there, but do it only if you have experience working with electricity.

If you have to change out the breaker, and you haven't done electrical work before, be safe and call an electrician.

Call a qualified professional electrician, a pool and the wiring for the pool are very specific code regulations to follow. Since you need to ask about the power in the box, you do not have the experience to do the work. DO NOT KILL somebody by trying to DIY.

If you can't tell by looking at it, then this means to spend a few bucks and have it done safely by a professional electrician. That way nobody will be electrocuted.

Sorry, but this is no laughing matter.
