When we realized that DDT is responsible for the decline of the bald eagle, we became aware of the dangers of pesticides.

  • Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring had a HUGE impact on making the public aware of the effects of pesticides. It came out in the early-mid 1960s. A lot of environmental law was reformed because of the response her book received. Some trace the start of the environmental movement to her book.
