Taking care of a fish?
I just got a small goldfish, and I really need some tips about taking care of it. So far, I have a small plastic bowl thing, and some fish food, and I've observed that the fish eats the food, and then spits it out. Is this normal? Anyway, like how much food should you give the fish? Also, it seems like the water is too cold, at first it was nice room temperature water, but our house is 65 degrees Farenheit, so always, the water gets colder and colder. Will it really affect the fish? Could you please help me and give my some tips for caring for a fish?
Thanks...
Well the water, I don't know, but in the house it is 65 degrees, at first I put room temperature water. Should I add warmer water to balance it out?

Most people are going to tell you you need a 20 gallon tank for the goldfish. Goldfish can easily live 10 years long, but to reach that age they need to be in a overfiltered tank. Which means you need a filter that's for a tank double the size of what you have. Goldfish are known as dirty fish because they produce a lot of waste and they are also "fat bodied" versus slim bodied, so they need more space. Don't worry about it being cold, they are coldwater fish and don't need a heater.
I'm sure you're probably completely surprised about it needing a 20 gallon, but try looking at local listings on craigslist.org you will likely be able to find a 10 or 20 gallon cheap or even free. After that read up on goldfish care on the internet, learn about tank cycling and maintenance. I'm sorry you got fooled into thinking goldfish are easy and low maintenance...
Here is another question and answer about goldfish care.

Yes it is normal for the fish to spit it out as long as it eats it again, but in smaller pieces. Just give it a pinch of flake food or a few pellets. You may want to get a small heater or heat lamp for your fish. Get a thermometer and check the water occassionally. It should be about 75 degrees farenheit. If the water is too cold it could kill your fish. Cold water killed my crab. :(
as for tips...
change a small amount of the water regularly, give it a hiding place, if the bowl is big enough put in a small plant, don't over crowd the tank, feed the fish twice a day (small amounts)
That's pretty much it. Goldfish are pretty easy to take care of. Hope this helps. : )
