Do you think Jon Lester's 5 game suspension is fair?

If it wasn't bad enough to throw him out of the game, why is he being suspended for five games?

Am I the only one who thinks it's a little "off" that he's suspended for five games? Or am I missing something? If I am, let me know! lol

Update:

From what I saw/heard, Lester kind of "lost" his curveball with that pitch... it didn't seem like it was intentional to me, but that's just my opinion.

I don't think it is fair at all. When he hit some of the players he threw pitches to they were not intentional hits. Everyone knew that.

For Lester to get suspended is just crazy. I thought he would appeal but according to NESN he has accepted his suspentions.

To the answer below Lester has decided not to appeal, and he has accepted his suspention.

Also read this. Maddon thinks his players did the right thing buy fighting.

"The way it played out, the players took care of business on the field," Maddon said. "And after the incident occurred, I thought it was all over. It's one of those things baseball players do whenever you feel like one of your guys has been unfairly, wrongly attacked, basically. The natural tendency is to defend your own."

No, it's not fair. I think basically all the suspension for the Sox except Crisp's were basically so that the Rays couldnt complain. Lester did almost nothing in the initial fight. The two hit batmans were clearly not intentional. A curveball and a changeup got away, if they were fastballs I'd understand, but they weren't. It's basically a make up call. But I like the Rays suspension a lot, well deserved. Gomes is nothing but a punk. What's he hitting .222? Go practice your batting swing buddy, stop swinging cheap shots at a guy on the bottom of a pile. That was just cheap.

I dont think he deserved any suspension that was uncalled for I can understand casey and crisp.

This is from the article on the redsox web.

"Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester was given a five-game suspension for what MLB ruled was "intentionally throwing" at a Tampa Bay batter after a warning had been issued. Lester hit Carl Crawford in the fifth inning with a curveball, but it's unclear if that's the pitch he was disciplined for. Typically, when a pitcher is believed to have violated a warning, he is immediately ejected. Lester was not."

    Heres the addy. http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=...

And for Maddon to say his players did a good job was very rude, and uncalled for. He should be suspended for saying that... Redsoxfan1982.

Edit: He shouldve appeal it like crisp not accept it.

Greta, i dont think it was intentionally. I think he did it by accident.

Of course it was intentional (like it or not, the beanball is part of baseball)...and he was warned on the previous pitch. Now, was that worth 5 games? No...maybe 1 game or just a fine (you gotta have SOME discipline for disobeying an order).

But you know why it was 5 games? Because he's pitcher and they only pitch every 5 days...so in reality it was only a one game suspension. He's only going to miss one game....or maybe just one spot in the rotation. Fair imo.

  • I didn't see the game, but since Lester is a starting pitcher, his suspension really only amounts to one start, since a five game suspension is for five team games, not five starts.

No, I don't think it's fair. I can't imagine what he could have done to get nailed for 5 games. Maybe one game would have been appropriate. He should appeal and maybe cut it down to 2 or 3 games.

That was totally ridiculous. After all that poor guy has been through. He doesnt deserve even one game suspension no less five. What were they thinking?

  • 1 decade ago

no, he didnt do anything to deserve any suspension, and i cant wait until the next series in july. i hope beckett is pitching and knocks that b*tch johnny Gomes in his f*cking ugly face. Hoe dare he hit little coco.

  • 1 decade ago

Its only one game right? He'll probably appeal anyway and then he wont have to miss a game until later in the year....ok then no appeal.

And it probably was just an accident
