People are right in saying a Mastercard or Visa will work abroad. Be sure you have your credit card issued by a Philippine bank (or the local arm of an international bank) so you get billed in Philippine pesos.

In terms of which issuing bank you could go for, you could look at:

    http://www.citibank.com.ph/

    http://www.hsbc.com.ph/

    http://www.metrobank.com.ph/

Most banks will have either VISA or MasterCards available, and will even allow you to submit your credit card application online.

Visa or MasterCard works almost anywhere. Your account will be in peso but if you use it outside, the FOREX rate applies (converted) plus tax plus service fee.

Avoid using your credit card while abroad, you might get shocked when the bill comes. Buy US dollars while you are still here then simply exchange them once you get there. International airports always have money changers.

VISA and MASTERCARD are widely accepted but I guess JCB cards are more recognized in Japan since its issued by Japan Credit Bureau.

I have been using my cards for purchases outside the country and so far the conversion rate used is not that bad.

......you can't use Philippine peso in Japan......lolz......its good you have credit card with you to charge all your purchases. If you have mastercard or visa, it doesn't matter as long as you still have the credit limit for the card......
