Cheap high spin golf ball?
I'm on a very tight budget but love high spin balls (bad combo). I can get a guy at my local pro shop to give me a dozen Srixon Z-URC's for $30. While that is hard to beat, what are some of your favorite cheap high spin balls? Has anyone tried some of the new balls like the Top Flite Gamer?

I don't care what anyone says, you get what you pay for in golf balls. The best new deal is the Callaway Hot Bite (the green box). They play very good in all aspects and cost about $15 less than the premiums. My current favorites, for general playing, is the Taylor Made TP X-outs. I know, I know, but like you said, times is hard. Dick's sporting goods sell's them for $14.99 dozen.

Your answer is No. Golf balls cannot be made for high or low launch. It is not in the capabilities of the design. The only things a golf ball can be made to do is spin (or retain spin) and be more aerodynamic (fly farther). The reason people think all spin balls will always flight higher is because spin causes the ball to rise. It's just a fact of the physics of golf that backspin causes the ball to fly higher. True it's one of the reasons, but if you consistently hit a spinning ball too high, you are swinging and striking the ball incorrectly. With a driver, there should be little to no backspin. Pros strive for the least amount of backspin so that the ball travels forward and hits the ground with little backspin so it rolls forward as much as possible. If your driver is tuned properly to your swing it will have a boring trajectory that goes out rather than up. Likewise with wedges. The proper wedge shot should take off more forward than up and rise a little bit in flight. The wedges should have significantly more spin than the driver. I have a high spin rate on my shots. I still play a spin ball and i hit a very playable low-to-mid trajectory flight. It's all in how you swing and make contact.

If you can find them, try the Nike TA2 Spin. It's an older model golf ball. I just bought a dozen from Austad's Golf online. They spin like crazy. I can get spin with any iron. I spun it out of a bunker when I played last week. The only drawback is they scuff easily. You can tell the improvement in technology from the that ball to the Nike One series. If that is not the route you want to go, try the Wilson Luxe. It's under 20 bucks and the spin rate is 10,333 rpm which is a little faster than the Top Flite Gamer at 10,087 rpm.

Where does this " high spin golf ball " come from? Spin is imparted on a ball by the manner in which it is hit, not through a factor built into a ball. If you hit the ball prior to hitting the turf you will impart back spin. If you don't you wont regardless of the make of ball. So, if you are presently on a tight budget, buy your balls from " ball hawks " who make it a business to find the lost ones at real cheap like $ 10. per dozen.

Top Flite Gamer is a good ball for the price. You get what you pay for.
They have a good ball flight, however they dont stick on the greens.
I usually have to grab a new ball every 7 to 8 holes as they scuff.......
