What will nintendo do with the ds next?

I'm just wondering how Nintendo usually handles its handhelds since I have never had one. I'm thinking of getting a ds for my girlfriend and I want the "metallic rose" nintendogs version for her. These are extremely hard to find and they are expensive. I might wait till fall and see what kind of new stuff they come out with then if that's the norm for nintendo's handhelds (i.e. Do they come out with the coolest stuff around the holidays?)

Or should I simply get her a basic ds lite and get the game separate?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I believe you can buy the metallic rose colour seperately (if not, they have the regular pink one out), and then the game. That might be cheaper (not sure, but make sure you get her the version that has her favourite dog already unlocked for her), as for new models... wait until after E3, there's speculation Nintendo will release or reveal a new DS model, although nothing is for sure. It's a safe bet that if you bought her one now, all you'd be missing is potentially a lighter and smaller model (maybe without Gameboy Advance compatibility). So getting it now wouldn't hurt too much, plus it's probably cheaper to get this model.
