Would anybody like to join in thanking GM?

Today we celebrate a momentous occasion. The U.S. average price for gasoline has reached $4.00 a gallon. I would like to thank the General Motors Corporation for their contribution to achieving this lofty goal. Their steadfast support for big gas guzzling vehicles and continuing suppression of electric cars really made this event possible.

In 2003 GM began destroying this country's best defense against high gas prices, the electric car, aka EV1. (In fact the moment they find out one of them is working they swooped in and threatened to take the car away.) GM, being the industry leader, also coerced all of the auto makers into doing the same. It wasn't hard, the auto makers were all looking at the same crystal ball. It said, “Thou shall not make anything that keeps us from making a profit on large gas guzzling cars.” Large cars that use twice as much fuel to go a mile than small cars. Remember the car makers are all linked through the Automobile Manufacturers Association.

Update:

Now we are now reaping the benefits of this act. Most of the cars on the road today use 1 of 2 types of fuel. These fuels have a greater than 60% chance of being imported. We have no choices. Electric cars are the quickest and cheapest solution to the dual problems of excess oil dependence and air pollution. The demand for the fuel world wide is escalating causing the price to go up rapidly.

Again I would like to thank GM for making my poor existence that much poorer. I thank you for making America that much more vulnerable to the whims of not so sane foreign rulers. And I thank you for forcing us to drive cars that contribute to air pollution and will not work on any kind of alternative power source.

Would anybody care to join me in offering thanks for making our lives a bit more miserable?

Watch the film “Who Killed the Electric Car” to see what I'm talking about. I wonder if at any GM board meeting 2003 and 2007 they ever discussed gas prices above the $4.00?

Well i think they are reaping the consequences of there very bad ethical decisions. unfortunately we all have to pay the price now. But I think you will see new innovations in the auto industry that will make your jaw drop within the next 10 years.

    that will revolutionize transportation.

It is the consumers not the manufacturer, although GM offers suvs like the Hummer and Suburban, they also offer fuel effiecient cars like the Cobalt, Sky and HHR and i mean hell, even the 'vette Z06 gets 26mpg. Not to mention they are the leading innovator in ethonal with the FlexFuel option which comes standard with many of their suvs. GM has been a staple in the american econemy for almost a century, some stupid documentary can't change that. So yes i would like to thank GM for helping hundreds of thousands of families and providing a decent econemy.

Buyers dictate what mfg's make. The big suv's sold for many years, and GM made good money off of it, not too mention all of the Americans they employed while suv's were popular. You can't blame GM, we have to blame ourselves.
