Sleeping on a soft mattress?

I have been reading about sids and co sleeping and I have read not to let the baby sleep on a soft surface. Is that just because of the suffication hazard? If not please tell me why.

Main reason should be suffocation hazard.

Yes, it is because of suffocation hazard. Any soft surface is a danger, whether in your bed, a travel bed, or crib. And it's always recommended that babies are put on their back to sleep. Happy parenting!

it must be suffocation hazard because if you notice all baby mattresses are very firm.

plus soft mattresses aren't too good for anyone's back so i imagine they especially wouldn't be very good for a baby's back...

That's probably what's causing crib death, they can suffocate on a soft mattress.
