Are you a blood donor or on bone marrow donor register?

Reasons for or against pls.

I personaly have made 58 donations since making a vow to God that i would double the number of blood units that my mother got, if she at least woke up from major surgery to remove advanced/ aggresive skin cancer. Mom needed 23 units over 3 days. Lots of limpglands & some muscles removed but 21yrs later mom is still healthy & still managing her home publishing buisness at age 68.

Update:

G'day Midnight i am also on the Australian Bone Marrow Registra but so far have only been needed for a matched platlet & plasma donation for a lukemia patient who needed stronger chemio. His Chemio worked and only tempory supressed his platlet production though he probably has both of our plates being made in his bone marrow now. 2yrs remission. i urge all people to at least be an organ donor when they die.

Update 2:

Knittnm &Jehn glad to hear you are in remission and healing thanks to your family, friends, medical&blood products.

Thank you. I cant even count the number of blood products I have received over 2 leukemia diagnosis and a stem cell transplant. My spouse donates to the local hospital regularly, and is on the marrow registry.

What is so sad, is over the last 3.5 years that I have been through this, tons of people have asked if they could be tested to match me (before transplant) or if they could donate blood to me. None of them donate regularly, and none of them would sign of for the marrow registry. None.

Why are people so unwilling to give? I mean, donating blood is a needle in your arm for what, 30 mins? And the way they do stem cell transplant donation in most cases today (instead of using actual marrow, most of the time they use peripheral blood stem cells) with a aphersis machine, that is fairly simple and non evasive as well.

I dont know about others, but the two major University trauma hospitals that I am treated at generally have enough blood on hand for about 1-2 days of regular patients, and no where near enough blood in case of a massive emergency.

Source(s): I ofcourse as a leukemia patient will never be able to donate, but I encourage all the people I can to do so. http://www.marrow.org/ The National Marrow Donors Program for the US They have language translations and links to other countries

I would if I could, but I can't for atleast a while. But thank you so much for your donations. I had a couple blood transfusions and it wouldn't have been possible without people like you. I know it's not as much as other people have had, but still appreciated, nonetheless.

ADDED: Not in remission yet! But here's hoping for a clean PET next week!
